awww that's great news Dawn....  just remember to take some time out for yourself hun, switch off your email, phone and go have a nice long soak in the bath and a night off!

Sometimes we desperately need that to re-charge our batteries and have been doing something similar myself the last couple of days.  There will always be cats (or parrots ;)  ) that need our help hun but there is only one of you!    and as Lesley has said you already do way more than your own fair share!

We've discovered Josephine hasn't got a nasty bone in her body  :Luv2:  She will nip but doesn't put any pressure on, she's now been on my hand and climbed onto my shoulder and I think my younger son has fallen in love with her, she natters away to him every time she sees him and has been on his hand and arm numerous times  :Luv2:  I'm really pleased as she will be coming to live with us when her mum goes into care, so it will be nice to tell her how well behaved she's been.  She's also been fine with my other parrots and even had Nelly gatecrashing her cage last night, no fighting or squabbles, she's a little gem bless her  :Luv:  :Luv:

I always hate seeing them in little cages, good to hear they are out most of the time, I did think that would be the answer!

The cages I've got are about 5ft x 4 ft but they are out most of the time anyway.  Sarah, if I get one in that I think may be suitable for you, I'll let you know  ;)

I love Josephine   :Luv: :Luv:

We have had our yellow thighed caique (Zak) for five years now and hopefully he will have some parroty company at some point in the future.

He can be really noisy too - lots of talking, phone/guinea pig impressions and "will you stop it!"" at the cats!  :evillaugh:

He gives a little chuckle after telling them off  :Luv:

Since I've had Josephine, my house sounds more like a jungle every day as Candice will verify  :tired:  My head is pounding today, parrots are squawking their heads off and all I want to do is find a nice quiet spot and hide  :sneakin:  Chance would be a fine thing  :sneaky:

That sounds like a Macaw, the African Greys usually live until they're in their 70's, I've got another one of these to pick up in the next few days.  I love Amazons and their characters, but for the talking, you can't beat a Grey but in saying that, Josephine is a pretty good talker.  She had me in stitches when I went to pick her up, the lady was saying how she loved to bite and Josephine let rip with a really dirty laugh  :evillaugh:  One of my Amazons that sadly had to be pts last year was a real character.  Lainey came to stop and although Skipper loved me to bits, she spent all her time nailing Lainey and then laughing like a trooper, some can be extremely naughty but fun loving with it.  I think the main thing with them is to be confidant, if they know you're scared, they can make your life hell and will hunt you down.........I've had a couple like this and they can do you some damage  :sneaky:  Two of our greys used to climb up the banister to go upstairs, you'd know they were coming as you'd hear them whistling as they went, they'd go into the bedroom and then dive bomb hubby as he lay in bed  :evillaugh:  Sometimes I'd go into the kitchen and you'll see a parrots butt sticking out of the biscuit jar while they were raiding the biccies, both extremely funny and they used to also hound the cats if they were on my worktops in the kitchen.  I love them to bits but sadly like the cats, it's getting the right homes for them and at the moment, more and more need homes and it's having the time and space to keep them   :(

Aww she's beautiful. A friend of mine used to keep parrots that hated almost everyone except her & OH, yet everytime I visited they flew straight to me and wouldn't leave me alone. After a few visits she asked if I'd look after them when she was on holiday and I loved it, they were such characters, sadly she moved away a few years ago and we lost touch. I forget what type they were but predominately red and with very long tails and about 3' head to tail tip, she said they lived to about 80 years. I'd love a parrot but they are just too demanding; such intelligent birds and craving company always, besides they would outlive me now so it's just not fair :(

When I moved here, I darn near crashed the car the first time a flock of Parakeets flew past me. Since then, I seem to see them everyday. And really beautiful they are too and amazing that they've adapted so easily our winters.  :)

The people who used to live next door had one of those large white ones with a yellow crest (sorry, I have no idea about varieties! ). He drove the youngest boy to the point of despair as the minute the poor lad had gone upstairs to his den, he would hear his mother yell "David! David! Someone on the phone for you!", but when he came all the way down, it was almost always the ruddy parrot that had called him.   Problem is, it's funny the first time but the parrot didn't know when to call it a day and that poor lad nearly wore the stairs out.  :innocent:

If I'm being honest, it felt quite nice to help the lady whose going into respite care  :)  She has a full time carer and when she has her respite, her niece who is well into her late 60's usually looks after the parrot for her, but this time round, they are off on their hols for a break.  Without me stepping in, they wouldn't have been able to go so I feel a little better about helping out  :Luv2:  The parrot is gorgeous, she's a blue fronted Amazon and called Josephine   :heeee heeee: She called my son a pretty boy, not sure if he was impressed or not  :evillaugh:  Apparently she's a bit of a butter for biting so I'm sure I'll have a few more scars in the next couple of weeks  :sneaky:  I'll take some piccies of her later  :Luv:  :Luv:

Like I keep saying - I think you are all WONDERFUL for what you do.
Just wish my OH would let me foster and stuff. Could always kick him out and move the cats in I suppose - lol.
Keep up the good work and do make time for yourselves - no good if you get fed up and ill - no good to little helpless furries then  :Luv:

I must be a young whipper snapper then ;), only been rescuing since 2000.  We have said (well hubby has spoken and I must abide by his rules, he puts up with alot with all my cats) the limit at any one time now is 40, so we are at that, did get to 48 last year, but just too much for me to cope with, what with running our own business and the seven dogs as well, and when I have one in like Gigi, she may be the smallest, but takes the most time of them all, so it would not be far on her and the rest of them to take in any more than that.

I recently had a chat with a contact of ours in a neighbouring district. She has been doing cat rescue for over 30 years!  :scared: She says she accepts it'll never stop but she has seen some improvement, and the wonderful stories and things she'd achieved did compensate for the sad ones. I said if I can't imagine spending that long doing this, but when I stopped to think about it, I rescued my first puss over 20 years ago!  :oh noo:  :censored: me am I getting old!
