No, I am afraid his mum only hears from Chris once a week at the weekend when he can get into Kathmandu. I suspect that when he said Nani legged it, he has not seen hide nor hair of her since, sadly

His mum has contacted the sanctuary, so they will not be holding a space for Nani.

Well, I have just heard from my friend and it is good news and bad news from Nepal.

The good news is that Nani came on in leaps and bounds while Chris was caring for her. The bad news is that she recovered to such an extent that she upped and legged it via his balcony.

My friend will contact the sanctuary in Nepal to tell them.

I have a cunning plan.

How's about we make Chatlines and dating services a thing of the past and just get all single blokes to sign up for cat rescue? £50 a time to clean out litter trays and you get to have dinner with a Purrs 'greenie'

Dawn and everyone! The internet is a truly amazing medium and this forum is one of the most fantastic places on it.

I have immediately emailed my friend with the full contact details and offer of help from KAT and she will forward this to Chris. I will post an update as soon as I hear from her (which will be as soon as she hears from him). I do so hope it went well with the veterinary visit on Monday...

Just had another email through off someone which may or may not help:

There are a number of options. If the cat is found in Kathmandu district it can be taken to Kathmandu Animal Treatment Centre (www.katcentre.org.np) in Buddhilnakant, or to SPCA Nepal, close to Pashupati (www.spcanepal.org.np)

If it is found in Lalitpur district Animal Nepal can help. We rehabilitate sick or injured stray dogs and cats in volunteers' homes. We are overloaded at the moment but we can help in finding adoptive parents after the cat has recovered.

One suggetion: not many vets are able to treat cats in Nepal. Pls contact staff of animal welfare orgs to ask for advice!

He and his roomie paid for a good vet to come out to Nani and they know not to worry about cost, so if she can be saved, she will be. Chris adored his family pud, Jenny, and Jenny worshipped him, which tells you a lot about his way with cats

I have sent the link for this thread to my friend and she has forwarded it to Chris in Nepal, so he will be able to check it all out when he is back in Kathmandu at the weekend (he is in a remote village doing his voluntary teaching work and has no Internet access during the week).

I have told her that it won't cost thousands. Nani is seeing the vet today so let us see what the outcome of that is. Gil has discovered that the Nepalese have a habit of saying it with sticks if they suspect rabies, but I have told her that her highly-educated son is probably in a better position to judge the likelihood of that than the village children.

I saw the note from Chris to his mother, and it included this: 'I think there is a good chance that she will die. At least we will be able to give her a comfortable ending to her short life. She has great spirit and is definitely a people cat, just like Jenny.'

I am so proud of my friend's son for what he is trying to do.

No news yet except that Chris has called the kitten Nani (baby girl in Nepali). I will update this thread with any news about her.
