Just after Dawn found alternative accommodation for the kittens from Derby (about 10 minutes after) got a call from a chap who had found four kittens in his garden and though he had seen mum.
Went round and kittens were just on the ground under a bush. The guy stated that he only found them because they were crying and was worried as they get foxes in the garden even during the day time.
Was going to get the incubator out of the car as they really wanted me to take babies to safety, when we saw what we thought was mother at the gront garden. After much toing and froing and a lot of help from very nice neighbours managed to catch "mum" and therefore remove the whole family.
Mum looks very young, is petrified, does not seem to have much milk and shows no interest in kittens at all. All she wants to do is eat, I have never seen a cat eat so much and so fast, she must be starving. Although not large her nipples look like they have been suckled but the babies are probably only 24 hours old.
I think she is just terrified of the whole giving birth experience, and just bewildered by it all.
I have her safely ensconced in the study (posh name for the box room) and the kittens are also in there in the incubator. I don't really want to leave her with them just in a bed in case she tries to harm them and just in case we have made a terrible mistake and it's not mum
So alot of night feeding for me though they are already taking their milk well. When I last fed them mum looked but even though I put the babies right near her she did not seek them out, but did not hiss at them either.
Hopefully if she calms down she may accept them back.
