It went really well today, I did enjoy scooping poop and cleaning bowls! Although the lady that showed me around (another volunteer) told me if I spent less time chatting to the cats we'd get done much quicker! It's a small place with maybe 25+ cats plus the cats in the cattery, and around 7 ferals. Things were pretty straight forward, mainly cleaning out each kennel, changing the food and scooping poop. There were some gorgeous kittys there, some very shy (a pair, who were found in a cramped flat inside a cage - together with 19 other cats), feral kittens, and of course the cat I took in last week... he was doing well, but not sure he recognised me. I think he's due to be rehomed in Essex.. fingers crossed.
After we were done (about midday) I was invited inside their house for a cup of tea and greeted by another 8 cats residing in their conservatory, and then opening the door leading into the kitchen I suddenly had 6 dogs jumping up on me!
The woman running the place (Barbara) and her husband told me each dogs story, and one of the dogs, a gorgeous black staff with white socks had been involved in dog fighting... a woman called up and said she suspected her grandson to be involved in dog fighting, so Barbara went straight to their flat in Peckham (B is a tough woman) and picked the dog up - he was skinny and covered in bites and wounds. I could not believe it cos this dog was just so soppy and took to me instantly. I ended up sitting on the floor with the dog literally hugging me refusing to let go while I tried drinking my tea! It was hard not to fall in love...
I did fall in love with one cat, she was a young female, maybe a bit less than a year old. She was black with white long socks on all 4 paws. She was reserved though!
I'm going back Tuesday morning, and plan for this to become a regular weekly thing, timetables allowing! (well, mainly my timetable!)
Anyone curious about the place, here is the link, and you can see the beautiful staff under ''Dogs Seeking Home''
http://www.croydonanimalsamaritans.co.ukThat's where I got my boys, Riley and Digby, from. It is a really nice place and the lady was great. She put up with me keep going and visiting until they were ready to come home with me. It's reminded me to email her with an update and some pics for their website.
Hope you have had a good day.
Oohh was this recently? It's a nice place isn't it, very countryside!
