good luck with this Ela, hope it all works out in the end.  I don't know why some rescues have to paint such a bleak picture to owners.

fingers crossed things go ok for the little ones but either way you will have done your best Ela.

Sometime we're fighting a losing battle when other rescues paint such a bleak picture for the owner.  I am sure they only say these things to try and get the owners to keep the cats but sometimes, as in this case, it backfires with possible dire consequences.

Good luck to you Ela, I know you will do your best to get them safe.

I can't say too much at this time but I have come up with an idea and I think it has worked. I will adopt them. After all I have loved and lost  2 in the last few weeks.

no sorry I meant have them signed over and then get a rescue involved, I suppose if the owner thinks they will end up in  a pen and doesn't want that your hands are tied

I was wondering the same, will the man not sign over to the vet?

The vet could not possible keep them, all their cages are used each day. and in any case oulthe owner doies not want them in a pen,as one rescue told him all they would do would be to lock them in a shed until they die or a pen where they would throw themselves at the mesh. How a rescue could say that just because they did not want to help is beyond me.

So sad - won't the vet keep the cats for you? - hopefully they can tell a white lie? - it should be illegal to PTS healthy cats  >:(  :'(

HEARTBREAKING
A week or so ago I received a phone call from a man who said his relationship had broken up and he could not keep a 15 year old cat and 2 x 16 year olds. I asked him where he lived and after he told me I advised him that really it was not an area we dealt with but told him to ring the  cat rescue nearest to him,  he said they did not want to know so I asked him to ring a  Cats Protection shelter. They like all rescues do have a waiting list but at least eventually they will be taken in. For some reason I did 1471 after I put the phone down. A few days ago I rang the man and asked if he had placed the cats on the Derby list, he said he had. On Tuesday I received a call from a vet to ask if I know of a Mr X, I said yes and told her all I knew, apparently he had made an appointment to PTS. Although we are full to bursting have a huge list of cats waiting to come in and some in a cattery we need to pay for, we decided that one fosterer would try to move thing around and take them in. We then rang the vet who then advised the owner. He had changed his mind and said he did not want them in a pen and would rather they ‘go’ together. The vet then told the owner of a  sanctuary who has some cats out on the land, (she forgot to mention that they would need to be contained initially for a while) unfortunately they cannot help, so the man arranged for the little ones to be PTS this afternoon. I asked the vet if they could ring the sanctuary themselves and advise them that we would pay for all vet care for life and provide all food if they could take them in. I have not heard back about this, But I have left a message on their answerphone and asked them to ring me back as soon as they receive my message. Last night after fat club I rang the owner, the answer phone was on so pretending I knew nothing just said Oh! hello its Elaine from CP and then offered to come and take pics of the little ones and place them on my site. An hour later I thought I would have one more go, so rang again and the owner answered again pretending to know nothing I said I had left a message on his answerphone & had he heard it. He said no, so told him of my plan, he then said but I have booked them in the vets tomorrow, I said Oh! are they ill he did not really answer, so I said well we would pay and once homed we always pay for life for any age related illness. I advised him we find good homes for loads of golden oldies. I cannot make him sign them over so in the end I just asked as sweetly as I could muster do you know my number, he said yes so I replied well if you want me to help please ring me tomorrow. My hands are tied and I feel helpless.
