I bet you are livid Sharon, I know how annoyed I was when I was doing ring rounds and someone was allowing their female out unspayed cos they thought it might be nice to let her have one litter - I need to do a follow up on that on Mon actually. I think that telling him Blossom's tale, and how the emergency vet quoted £500 for a c-section and our normal vet charges £250 made him think again. At least i hope so. Our adoption paper says we can take the cat back if it isn't done, but not sure if we actually would
Please spay your cat

that would be interesting to know. We have a similar thing on our adoption form and I was just telling my mother how it would be nice for my mummy cat to go to her new home when the last 2 kittens go rather than have to wait here a week and a half until she is spayed. I told her that it would be nice for the new owners to take the responsibiliy but in the end I laughed and said for the sake of a week or two, I just didn't want to risk it because even though we do stipulate something in the adoption form about taking the cat back I really couldn't see us going to the expense and bother of doing something about it.

It would be nice if someone like CP HQ did though as they can (hopefully) afford it and it would be well worth the publicity if it could get into the nationals - might help us all out as long as any ruling went the right way of course!

Maybe time to speak to head office legal dept?

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

In CP rehoming forms there is a legal sentence that people sign when they adopt a cat and agree to get it neutered? If in this instance these people havnt compiled with this can we make a point of cats coming back to us and rehoming kittens and spaying mum and returning.

Has anyone done this and what was the outcome..?
Seems abit OTT but i am still livid?

I meet one of the little 'second generation' eight lives kitties last night....pretty and dainty BUT like you guys say there are plenty more kitties that could do with the homes, instead of this carelessness!
All my kitties through time have been fixed, no messing.....If I couldn't afford the amount at a standard vet i'd either sell what I had or ask for financial help (BUT only if I was entitled!)
I take it the cats are well past being able to be spayed until the kittens arrive.....I've got a premonition about who's gonna get a call....'I can't find homes for the kittens/I can't cope with a pregnant cat/ My cats having pregnancy trouble and I can't afford the bills'.........need i say more.
I mean we all make mistakes but this one could cost little lives  >:(

We have neutered young cats as young as five months but some vets are not that keen.

I ring around owners who have adopted kittens from us when they are five months old and remind them to get it done, if there is a probl i agree to issue a voucher (if finances is a issue or something but most people have the op booked and ring up about 2wks or so after that date to make sure its done.. Sometimes i check with the vets as well.

I know exactly what you mean Sharon.  Had the same thing happen to me, the only time it has happened with one of my rescues, as far as I am aware, and guess who ended up with the kittens when they couldn't find homes for them, muggins here.

The last thing I want to see is second generation Eight Lives kittens :-[

I know its wrong but i hope they both end up with a heafty vets bill for their troubles.. !! I know these things do h appen but if they both got them down the vets when they new something was up, then at least they could of been spayed.  Ethics.. let them answer our phones for a month that will tell them abit about ethics..

I am still LIVID!

I have just rang two people up that had kittens from us early in the year and both female turn out to be pregnant. One escaped and 3 days later turned up and was found to be pregnant went she went into be spayed.

Another was older then we thought and the lady didnt recognise the signs and she was preg before her spay date.

I am livid as these people where lovely and their homes were great but they ahve been totally irresponsible and no matter how many loving homes they have for the kittens another load of kittens out their dies due to no one wanting them.

I think we have failed , the one that escaped she never even took to the vets as she thought it was unethical to get her down and thus thats why she never rang me to say that she was pregnant. This was the kiitten that had seizure when it was first vac. The other women should of known better and i am annoyed at them both... Both promise me hand on heart to get them done asap but still i will be ringing them. I almost think they should land with a huge vets bill to realise that its not "fun" to let them have kittens... Indeed one cat is very small and the chances of complications are high.. The other women had her ethics at heart when it theory she could of got her spayed.

These are the first two that i know of that have slipped through out neutering net and i am not pleased...............I gave them a whole lecture on the why rescues like us are needed in the first place and no matter how you put it too many cats out there for not enough homes, but it never sinks in just that they have loving homes for them so not to worry. And they will get them spayed or done when due. unless of course they forget!!!

Really..... these people need their heads banged together...
