Those of you who have kept abreast of Humphrey will know he is a very special puss.!
Humphrey was found around just before Christmas 2006 just wandering around the road in Canterbury. He was a sorry state, full of sores, abit thin and worse for wear, a stray who no doubt had been left to get on with life for a few weeks or months, with no one to take care of him. He was un neutered and had no chip or ID on him.
Humphrey was immediately picked up and taken to the local vets where he was found to be severely anaemic, this is generally not a good sign in cats and if not treated could prove to be fatal. Humphrey was given medication and observed for a few days, He was tested for nasty cat diseases and came back negative so he was then given further test to see if we could suss out what was wrong with him and making him so anaemic. However, all the tests came back inconclusive. His condition deteriorated after a few days and it was thought that we were on the verge of losing him. Xrays were done and further tests all proving somewhat of a mystery. He was given antibiotics and steroids but they seemed to upset him and he was kept at the vets for a few more days before a decision had to be made to continue with his treatment.
When things began to look really bad we were somewhat amazed that he turned a corner and seemed to improve. After a few more days of TLC he was deemed well enough to go to one of our wonderful fosterer carers where he is now.
We are not 100% sure what is wrong with Humphrey but his mystery symptoms seem to point to an unusual immunity defence problem. In plain language his body seems to be attacking it self. There is no cure for Humphreys condition but since he has been on steroids he has improved weekely. He take these tablets very easily in his food and dosn"t mind at all.
Humphrey has since been neutered, chipped and vacinnated and is now well enough for us to consider finding him a home to call his own.
He is extremely affectionate fellow, giving purrs, headbutts and just loves lying on people’s lap. He has a funny meow, nothing like what you would expect, he loves to watch the daily going on with life. He has been used to being the centre of attention while he was poorly and would probably benefit from being an only cat. He seems to enjoy being indoors in the warmth but a secure garden area would be nice, so he can go out and test the air.
Due to Humphrey"s long term care, Canterbury CP will pay for all his associated veterinary bills. The tablets he now has to take all his life are note very expensive and he will require checkups at the vets every few months to make sure he is doing okay. Other then that he is a adorable puss.
He would suit someone who is in the majority of the day, as he craves attention and always wants to see what you are doing.
Humphrey is indeed one special puss and deserves a new life for a New Year! Can you be that oh so special person to love and adore him?
