Not sure for dogs but for cats they get most of their energy from protein, grain being mostly undigestable hence the huge poos! Thats the theory of diets such as r/d, or so i thought, fill them up with minimal calories

They claim it's a good food but to be honest I don't agree with half the things they say. It seems to be it's lacking something crucial especially fat and protein which is just too low for some dogs. I've come across a huge amount of people who's dogs have the same sort of issues on Burns (there are a number of threads on this on several dog forums) .... loss of weight, poor coat condition, lethargy, scavanging, coprophagia (poo eating-most their own) then they just refuse to eat it. Change the food to something like Arden Grange, CSJ etc and all those symptoms go. Of course there are those dogs who do fine on it.

I thought Burns was supposed to be quite good.

One of my dogs has a very sensitive tummy and after ages of being on a certain diet, he decided this was gonna cause him probs too.. (he's allergic to chicken and almost everything else....except custard creams and digestive biscuits!!! :naughty:...so after a bit of trial and error (and home cooking.... :tired:) I switched to Pro-Plan digestion.  Perfect!   :)... and hardly any stools compared to what there used to be.   James Wellbeloved, which I normally swear by was no good for him at all.

I know this is a cat forum but info might benefit someone else with similar probs.

It causes weight loss because its high grain/low cal. Great if you have a cat/dog that needs to eat large quantities. Id opt to feed less of a higher cal food

It's it's a very, very common issue with dogs and the dog food. I'm very wary around Burns as it seems to leave a great many dogs malnourised. I have no experience with their cat food.

Fish Skins here go down well although I switched to Fish4dogs as the packets is a)bigger and b) cheaper  :wow:

One thing I want to try is their fish treats - you get a huge bag for about £3.75 - they are 100% fish. Usually you get a tiny tube of that kind of thing. I'm sure it will be another £3.5 down the drain  :evillaugh:

Funny thing about Burns (and this has happened to me and two of my friends) is that cats go mad for the samples but when the actual bags arrive they wont touch it!

Thats good, we just got a lot of sample bags. I dont rate their food though, while the meat content is high, so is the grain content. Didn't go down well here either.

I have been tempted a few times with Burns but never seem to have the spare cash to lay out in case they didn't like it, I can at least try this with the younger ones and a couple of scrawnies that I have in to see what they think  ;)

Burn's phoned me up a few days ago to see if I would like some bags of kitten food and of course I said yes   ;)  They have sent me six 7.5kg bags, 5 Catnip cushions and 5 bags of Organic Catnip  :Crazy:  How nice is that  ;D
