The CP ones were called 'Servitherm', v similar in design, safe as the surface isnt hot to the touch.

I was using a ceramic infrared lamp (the kind for chicks) but they are now really poorly made and my one had a melt down so im now too scared to use that type  :scared:
The electrician who explained the lamp fault reccomended a radiant heat source and Ela pointed me in the right direction  :thanks:

Iv bought a radiant heat panel on ebay called "solar" (but it isnt :-: )
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/THE-SOLAR-RADIANT-PANEL-HEATER-TT02_W0QQitemZ110248913657QQihZ001QQcategoryZ93631QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Its wall mountable and il buy some protective covering for the cable, conduit i think its called.

Radiant heat is the best as it heats whats in the room, eg cat bedding and cats  ;D

Both pens look lovely.
What does everyone use as a heat source? Im having problems with mine  :tired:

This is a difficult one as no electricity as yet, have put in a solar panelled light; currently its lovely and warm so will need to think carefully before autumn. Because of the layout I will need something mounted on the ceiling out of kittens reach, pity we couldnt join it onto house central heating.
My brick built Pens are heated with underbed electric heat pads  and an electric halogen fire which isnt too expensive, well around £15 a week in winter.
Anyone suggest anything?

I will ask Stuart to take one of the outside when he comes in, he took some of inside earlier, but you wiil see there still needs  some titivation. inside and the vinylay needs cropping, shelves covered & more bedding, toys etc.

Ela could you post some pictures?
My Pen has been carefully divided to keep 2 mothers and babies totally seperate, there is no outdoor run as yet but room to put one either side if needed,as it is the kittens have room to run around and an abundance of fresh air by way of the large double doors at the front. We purchased our summerhouse/shed from a local supplier and Rob did the conversion to keep costs to a minimum our pen complete with scratching posts just over £1000 money well spent. If only I had more money and more land.
Its been really exciting doing this one as it was so difficult to design, the 2 pens are divided by a giant Y shape so it left Rob lots of angles and bitty bits but it gives the cats maximum floor space and watching Poppy and her kittens having such fun is heaven.

Isn't it exciting Teresa a new pen? I had one about 3 weeks ago and I feel like a child with a new toy. It is about 13' x 6'  including run and is to be used for  a single family of cats. I just love it and hope the cats will too. I know normally Cats Protection pays for foster  pens, but I would rather know they are mine. So there went some of my holiday money, :) well about £7OO plus the extras I purchased, so I had better start saving again. Having trailed all the shed places in Chesterfield  we  (that is the Royal we as it was Stuart) found a lovely man who builds sheds to order sheds and he made  me exactly what I wanted.

Well spotted Koscha we bought 2 of the 3 bed Martellos from Russell Hardy in November and were really impressed with the quality, so it was an easy decision to go back to RH for the new ones.At first glance these seem expensive but they are solid wood not cardboard tubes and so made to last, its a false economy to keep replacing cheaper ones.
The photos dont do the Pens justice, at the back there is a wooden wall that seperates the Pens  and they are so spacious, Claire lay in the Pen and still had room for Poppy and 5 kittens to run around, must admit Claire and I were in heaven watching those little ones; its a dream come true.
Sadly too many Pens in garden now so thats the last, incidentally here a pic of my greenhouse it grows feral cats  its been like this for years but was relocated in order to make room for new Pen.

Paws Inn has two new pens
With a little Mayday madness we finally opened our new Pens after a long 3 week wait from the birth of the idea. The summerhouse has actually been divided into 2 Pens , each has been carefully designed with mother and kittens in mind to provide a safe, fun and spacious environment as well as being fully open to fresh air when required.

The first of these Pens has been called Poppy's Place as Poppy and her 5 kittens have had the pleasure of being the first to experience the new facilities!  Both mother and babies have really been enjoying the new space and loving the new kitten friendly scratching posts.

The new pens have also been a success with the hired help, who enjoyed lying in the sun so much she fell asleep. It seems that vet bed also makes a handy pillow!

Pictures of the kittens having fun have been posted on the Things are looking up for Poppy thread.

Pictures of the new facilities below.......
