do keep looking for him though. Sometimes young males can find themselves 'cut off' from their home territory because they have run the wrong way when chased by a territorial tom. So he could be a couple of gardens over from you and trying to get home when his hormones are not ruling his brain. Sadly home cats do stray once their hormones kick in. Smidgen did, and it nearly drove me crazy...

OK, I'm not sure if that'll make a difference to him though! Once he's out in the open and wants to mate, he'll wander around until he's found enough "ladies."

I would check out the lost and found section and also follow the advice given here http://adel.cats.org.uk/index.asp?m=laf

If he's not microchipped then please contact as many vets as you can asap as if they get in an injured cat, some vets only keep them for three days before putting them to sleep if no-one claims them.

If he is un-neutered please extend your seach for him to around a 5 mile radius of the house as they can wander much furthur than neutered cats.

If you follow all the advice, then all you can do is wait for responses or for him to return home. Please be assured that if people do follow the above steps we do have cats who return home after many weeks and even months.

Sorry, I'm confused. Are you saying Alfie was going to be neutered but escaped?

If so, an entire tom can stay away for weeks. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Please check the lost and found section - Sam has done a really good list of things you can do to try and find your cat.

four days ago i was getting my cat(alfie) ready for the visit with the vet to me nutted, but unfortunatly my youngest son left the front door open and alfie escaped and has not been seen since, we have been round the estate calling him but to no avail. he is a stunning black male cat and its breaking our hearts to think we might never see him again. How long will cats stay away from home for? and do they eventually turn up?. just after some comforting words.
