He only ate a tiny bit yesterday so went to the vets today. He got vit B, antibiotic injection (again) and a Periactin. He still only ate about 1/8th of an alutray of Specific and a tiny teaspoon of k/d. That licking up the really small bit of food (the periactin seems to have made him lick but not eat) went on for 45 mins with a break or two. We don't think it's his cold because although it's bad, it's no worse than at many times before when he's eaten well. It started suddenly anyhow this not eating, on thursday. He's also scratching at his bed with his front paws, which doesn't make any sense. The vet thinks that it's his dementia and he may be giving up. I have to try to get something down him and spend the day with him to reduce his agitation. It breaks my heart. He was doing so well on tues and wednesday but apparently it can go like that. I'm trying not to give up hope and to keep calm as it seems to affect him if I'm upset.
I may try some sardines in tomato sauce later. Vet says to warm the tin in hot water, then try. It's so awful to watch him come to the kitchen and look interested and then not eat. If he'll lick, I'm going to keep on trying the blended renal food too as that's soup like. I'm not sure what to do and nor is the vet.
He says if he give him cortisone tabs, that his cold will get even worse as it will lower his immune system. If anyone can help with ideas, much appreciated right now.
PS I modified my first post to change the title but it didn't work?
