You can drive yourself to drink reading those sites. Personally, I could string every single one of the people looking for unneutered queens or selling tabby moggy kittens for £200 together in a nice long line, attach a tonne of concrete on one end and chuck the lot of them in to the North Sea - shell suits and Burberry hats included.  >:(

What is the use of upsetting yourself by reading them, though? We cannot save them all.  :'( I've decided my energies are better spent on the cats I can save.  :shy:

True. I read them from time to time, and it can be pretty upsetting - I just saw the pedigrees and remembered a lot of oriental and La Perm fans on here.

If someone is willing to do it, I don't think there is any harm in emailing the "person" with a link to Catchat - if the ad states the area, even better to give them a link to rescues an their area. There is a chance that some of them might actually contact a local rescue.

Those wanted ads are frightening  :(

Hi Hunny

Ya def doing the right thing here in trying to help these poor babes and if the advertisers can be informed to go through rescue instead of using free adverting sites that would be brill

One of our guides is to not pop links or mention actual names of these free ad sites cause it actually helps their site get hits so they they continue to let these free to good home advert on. I really wish there was a law against it and peeps would go through rescue if they need to rehome.

This is what we have in our forum guide:-
Quote
Sadly there seems to be a lot of these on the other websites at the mo.   and we want to do what we possibly can to steer people away from using free-ads (both as ad posters and as responders), as
they are generally not good for the animals involved, and to steer them towards seeking help from a rescue centre instead.

We know from our wonderful members here that some cases will be truly genuine, but we must try and encourage to go through the proper channels ie rescues , for the sake of the animals involved.  With the sort of private deals these sites encourage, there are little or no controls over the homes that these animals end up in or indeed the state of the animal being sold.
Sometimes posts on such sites mention the cat being in danger if it is not homed quickly - often this is not true, the poster will say this just to offload the cat/kitten quicker.
Sometimes, these free-ads are breeders in disguise, or even worse, un-regulated back-yard breeders.
Cats/kittens in rescue centers miss out on homes because people may, (with the best of intentions) rush off and adopt the cat in the advert.

When someone finds themselves in a position where they need to rehome their cat, we seek to encourage them to go through their local rescue centre or rehoming group.
If you are concerned about a posting of this nature on another website, you can help by advising that person to approach their local rescue(s), all details of which can be found on the fabulous Cat Chat website’s Shelters pages here: http://www.catchat.org/adoption/

Please note that threads regarding postings on other websites offering cats for sale, free kittens, free to a good home etc, will be
modified taking out any reference to the advertising web site, and links removed. Allowing links to remain inadvertently advertises these sites, and perpetuates this thoughtless practice.

Please help animals by not supporting or promoting sites with free classified ads offering animals. If you are seeking a new animal companion, please use rescue!

Could ya remove the links for me hun, you could always keep the link handy if someone can help and contact the advertisers to use rescue and not the advert sites.
Thanks hun

JS, if you can pm me the details and just had a thought, the links will have to be taken off your initial post as Forum Rules state no links to Free Ad sites, sorry  :shy:

I don't think it's an issue where the cat comes from, if it needs a home, that's how it is. :)

That breeder needs, ummm....nope, I'm too polite to say. ;)

I think she may as she's been mithering me about one.  Don't worry, the cat I am sorting for her is not from the breeder  ;)

I have got someone interested in a siamese and I have sort of got one lined up for her, maybe she'd be interested in that one as well as she was happy to take on two.

This is why I just can't look at these sites because in my head I know that there are so many cats and kittens that we can't help, but seeing it in black and white really hurts.

It seems that no matter what we do, we'll always be mopping up the neglect and cruelty left by us humans!
