I think that you should not ignore your worries.
After Binky was killed last year I found it very hard to come to terms with it as I had identified a shortcut round to the front of the house but done nothing about it.

If there is a real concern then for both your sakes do something.

Can you catproof your garden? if you can't do that can you build an outside run?

I have had help Blackcat, they stem from a really bad accident I had 12 years ago!!!  I haven't experienced them for at least 10 months since I left my job and I know it is a bit OTT but the reality is that cats do get killed on that road and the thought that this could happen to Charlie is causing my anxiety symptoms to return.

another option would be to seek help with the anxiety attacks, this is a rather strong emotional response to the risk to Charlie and suggests either a) you are still recovering from the loss your other cat, or b) there are other issues that are being brought to the surface. In the mean time, is there any chance you can install a cat run or a cat-proof fence?

I have a dilemma and would really welcome your advice.  As you know Charlie adopted me some 10 weeks ago and has his claws firmly planted in my ankles!  Perhaps you will recall that I expressed worry because he had discovered the delights of the big field nearby which, unfortunately, is across a busy road.

I am finding that everytime he is out I am suffering anxiety attacks (I used to have them but haven't for a few years) due to the fact that I am worried he will get knocked down.  I should point out that five neighbourhood cats plus one we didn't know have been killed on that road.

It is getting to a serious level with me now - I suppose some of you will think I am over reacting or being a wuss or whatever but it is real fear for me.

So being as he loves the outdoors and maybe stressed if I keep him in what should I do?

Should I try to turn him into a housecat

Should I look for another safer home for him

Should I just suffer the anxiety

I don't want to rehome him at all but am thinking of his safety and wellbeing before what I want.

Your thoughts on it would really help me.

Cheers
Chrissie
