Mine eat a bit of it then use it as a litter tray.

I used to buy a tub from PAH for Magpie and stand it on the window sill.  He ate it regularly.  If I didnt have any, I'd just bring in a handful from outside and he'd eat that too  ;D

Once the grass has grown quite considerably, is it possible to put into a plant pot and consistently grow it forever?

They will eat normal grass as long as you allow some of it to be tall enough to be got at.

Mine dont have cat grass but just ordinary grass and they are like blooming sheep

I grew cat grass for Kocka but she preferred the normal grass and also was very particular about which pieces she ate, my current lot dont seem to be that fussy

I bought packets of cat grass seeds from a garden centre and planted a big planter with it for in the current cat run and had to take it away in the end as Boopy and Bilbo hardly ate food and just munched their grass instead!! They'll have to have normal lawn in their new cat run with a few planters of cat grass (no way I can afford to plant the whole run with cat grass!)

When I came home, Bertie was taking a great interest in the kitty grass - because he'd just done a poo on it.

    that is soooo funny  :evillaugh:

I buy the same stuff as you... add water leave in a bright spot, but not direct sunlight and shoots appear in about 4 days. After a few uneven growing attempts I now stir the contents to spread out the seeds and the current batch is more than Wllow can keep up with, I keep cutting it back. I do find it starts to die off in a few weeks but at under £2 a go I just grow another tray.

I did manage to get mine to grow, but it took ages and half of the tray did nothing for about a week, then up it shot!  The trick is not to leave the grass out unsupervised in my house, Max went mental for it and would have munched it all in one go if I'd let him

I've got some more to grow now, must get it started at the weekend.

I gave up buying them. I remember they had to go in a dark place (like an airing cupboard) for about 4 days until the shoots are about 1", then you take them out - as I remember, the shoots are yellow but turn green with natural light (photosynthesis?) Anyway, they only last a few days so more hassle than they are worth.

I probably didn't buy the same stuff as you Horza - the instructions were very vague and certainly nothing like yours!  I'd love to say I'd try again with a different brand, but I'm not sure Bertie would tell the difference - and I don't really want to come home to any more oddly placed Bertie poos

Was it just the tray of seeds? mine said to soak, hide in the dark then in sunshine after shoots sprouted and then it was away like a rocket  had to cut it back with scissors :)

Did you not have to place it somewhere dark for germination, on mine I have to for about 10-14 in a dark place and then in the sunshine

mine do like to lie on them but poops not yet

Bertie and Bella have been eating my houseplants, resulting in green sick and sad looking nibbled plants.  So while in Pets At Home, I bought a tray of kitty grass seeds.  It was all a big trauma ... first of all the  :censored: thing came open in the boot of the car and seeds went everywhere, then I managed to tip the thing over in the kitchen when I'd added the water and flooded half the floor.  Finally, I got it safely stowed away in the bathroom and after a worrying time where the instructions said it would start growing in 3-4 days and it didn't, I finally started getting some tasty looking grass on day 7.

I waited till today - day 11 - and proudly put it where Bert and Bella could see it before I went to work.

When I came home, Bertie was taking a great interest in the kitty grass - because he'd just done a poo on it.  And while I was cleaning it up, he ate one of my plants.
