Born and bred in Scotland I call it the Midlands

When people talk of the North/South devide etc it is referring to England not the UK, that is possiby where the confusion arises. ;D

If Manchester is not north then what is it?  :P

Its only known as North by Cockneys, up here its Midlands

Born and bred in Scotland I call it the Midlands  :evillaugh: The North to me is anywhere after Carlisle

Ruth I am in Rugby  :) just about 5-10 mins from Jt 18 M1 if anyone is near me or needs a lift I would be happy to be a driver as I don't drink  ;D

Not only Cockneys I fear, I live in the Midlands and us round her consider Manchester as North West (ish)

We are in Derbyshire and it is known  as the North Midlands.

Just looked on the net and found:- 'North West England is one of the nine official regions of England. It has a population of 6,853,200[1] and comprises five counties of England – Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire'.Although from many parts of Cheshire it would be easy to get to the Miidlands (if you drive of course) via the M6 although that could apply to Cumbria, Lancashire & Greater  Manchester as well.

i'm not a big drinker at the moment, so i'm quiet happy to be designated driver.

I am only a plastic Northerner anyway, haven't got the accent (and no haven't got a Brum one either even though everyone thinks Coventry people do)  ;)

Nottingham is good, I am there lots of weekends anyway  :) (like tomorrow, but perhaps short notice  ;D )

Or how about the "Old Cat" in wordsley http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/29/29098/Old_Cat/Wordsley

or the Cat and Fiddle Great Barr Birmingham http://www.pub-explorer.com/wmids/pub/catandfiddlegreatbarr.htm

The Romping Cat in Walsall

I could go on but this site might help with a venue choice:  http://www.purr-n-fur.org.uk/fun/pubsign/sign1.html

Maybe we can add a midlands location poll? So people can vote for where they'd prefer to meet  :)

Edited to say: I have had a look for any "Cat" themed pubs just out of curiosity but this  :censored: off-site network I am on blocks everything by the looks of it except purrs!!  :tired:

Just thought i would hijack this thread..

Well done for getting the ball rolling on this.. Having arranged a few things like this.. Its often once one is out the way all the others follow. You never know in the future we could have one "VERY BIG" Purrs social, may need to make a weekend of it..!
Cannot save the world, but if everyone does something we can have a jolly good job trying too....

The more the merrier! Brum is about an hour on the train from me, but I commute there every day so its no biggie. Also thought its a good base for people.

Any northerners interested?  :evillaugh:
