I think the carriers themselves are a fairly normal size and they weren't heavy boxes, just larger than what I'd expected, we'll see what happens when I get home!

If I could have been bothered to lower the back seats, they would both have gone in the back as its a golf hatchback but it was raining and I wanted as little faffing as possible!

Just picked them up and the boxes are huuuuge! Only one would fit in my boot, the other is on the back seat.

you'll just have to buy a new car then  :evillaugh:   Sounds like you've got yourself a free gym membership for when you've got to carry them to the vet mind you!  ;)

How big are the Tesco ones? For years I've been meaning to get a bigger one for Captain Cuddlepuss (Josh) because he's a big bear (7.5kg)

Aw, cute pics! I do like the look of those tesco ones so I think those are the ones I'll go with. Plus I'll get clubcard points for them! I'll probably order them today!

This is what ours looks like: (and no, he is not dead, just half-asleep. This is before we ever took him travelling in it, hence why he is inside it. Now whenever he sees it, he'll avoid it like the plague)

Don't think Jamesonsmum has the same one as ours Witty, I know Argos don't do them as I was considering importing my second one from the US as they used to be impossible to get hold of until Tesco started stocking them.

Anyway, seeing as we are doing carrier pics - here's the boys minutes after arriving at their new home...

We have the Argos one - blue and grey-ish. It's plastic and Jameson hates it with a passion. I never carry it by the handle thing, always lift it completely because I don't trust the pegs to hold it all together.

Can't say I've had any issues with mine - and because I show, I get far more mileage out of it than most of you folks. However, I have wired and glued the rear flap and latches shut just in case so that it now only opens from the front. (I was the one who kicked off the trend btw......)

The stroke hole is brilliant for feeding your cat chicken burger in the food court of a motorway service station though!  :evillaugh: I do get some funny looks when Pearl and I go for a pit stop.  :evillaugh:

Here's mine.

I would like to get some of the wire cage carriers for our lot eventually as they arent keen on travel (except Cheese who is a seasoned traveller and just sleeeeps  ;D ) and I think it will help them to be able to see whats going on around them and maybe not feel so trapped in.

Also, as Mark says it is probably more secure  ;D

I think a big problem with plastic ones is people break/lose a clip and still use it. Then another.........

Also a determined cat can force it enough for the door to pop out. "Prison style" is the only 100% safe way I think

Im with mark and gillian, iv not lost a cat that way yet but often hear/read about it  :(

www.metalcote.co.uk although gillians link gives you a piece of free vet bed  :wow:

My wire basket is nearly 30 years old and still going strong so if you look after them its v.good value. Wont find a plastic that lasts that long.

If you want to avoid p+p then see if your vet can order one for you, although they will probably cost more

I have a white wire one, which is very sturdy. My previous cat was settled in as is Archie. They can also see whats going on :shify:

I forgot to say - the Tesco carriers have seatbelt slots so you can strap them in the car...

I like the plain and simple, top opening, wire carriers, always used them, found them to do just what they say on the tin LOL! Like this one: http://www.breeding-world.co.uk/white-wire-cat-basket-p-172.html?osCsid=9029c53c603abcf65a31ad8d65e17187

And yes, defintely two!

After a cat escaping from a carrier the other week. I would only use a wire carrier with a metal bar in the future. I suppose if your cats are quite placid, it's a different story but this was a stray who wasn't happy about being in a carrier  :(

Also having top access makes it a lot easy to get cats in them.

Thanks, I'll have a look at that one - good price too!

I hadn't thought about the weight, I'll definitely get 2 I think, I remember how heavy Casper was last time I took him to the vets because Mums wrists weren't strong enough to carry him!

This is the official Purrs carrier (well kind of, lots of us on here have them  :evillaugh:).  It opens like a clamshell on both sides so is really easy to get the cats in and out.  There's a flap which is a storage pocket and a flap that you lift up that has a stroking hole, although be careful while they are small as they can poke their heads up through it!

http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.100-1535.aspx  £14 from tesco - I think you can order online and collect in store at some stores now aswell to avoid paying a delivery charge.

Definitely get two carriers rather than one large one, my two shared a carrier while they were little which was fine because they didn't weigh very much.  When I took them to get neutered at 6 months they went in separate carriers, when I collected them the nurse had put them both in one carrier (she said she thought it looked like a double buggy ).  I let them stay together as they had just been knocked unconscious and had body parts removed so I thought it might be comforting for them - I nearly did my back in getting them to the car it was sooo heavy!  They're much heavier now that they're a year old so I think it would be impossible to carry two in one basket without giving yourself a hernia!

Seeing as I will be getting 2 new babies in the near future, I thought I should look at cat carriers. Does anyone have a recommendation? Also as I am getting young cats, would I be better off getting a large box to transport them together or 2 smaller seperate ones?
