Tracking - success at last

I often wondered about those tracking mats - if they worked or not.

I have the main litter trays in a walk in cupboard in the kitchen - vinyl floor, but that leads into the lounge - carpet. So I got one of those bobbly bathmats, you know 'tumbletwist' I think they call 'em - they were £4.50 in Sainsburys instead of £9 something - so I got two - one down and one in the wash LOL! So I put it down where the vinyl meets the carpet and it just looks like a nice rug not like a bath mat at all (got neutral creamy colour) - AND it captures all the litter before it gets to the rest of the carpet (I need a little sign 'NOW WIPE YOUR FEET' LOL!!  )

Just give it a shake every day - amazing how much comes out of it, then wash once a week, put clean one down - works a treat - I'm dead chuffed with it - can you tell?

Thanks for that Puffball, my cats all have long fur so guess will stay with wood then.

The wood pellets they have are the best wood ones I have come across cos they seem to absorb more liquid than others so you dont use as much.

I use Smart Cat which is wood pellets and great and know they do a paper one, but was a bit dubious to try it.

How much of it do you use compared to wood pellets?

I don't know, I used the wood pellets once and they were like ' I'm sorry but what is THAT '.

Last week I put normal in half their trays and the paper pellets in the other, fully expecting the paper pellets tray to remain unused or just batted about. I was pleasantly surprised. I think I'm going to be using more than their normal litter tho.
My cats are weird tho, they hate any form of clumping litter, so this is great for them, but I imagine crap for others.

I tried the Smart Cat paper litter but it was a bit of a disaster...

I mixed a little into her ordinary litter and thought nothing more of it but the next morning I heard her crying in the kitchen. When I went to investigate her long fur (persian) had picked up every trace of paper litter and she had about half a newspaper tangled in her fur. It took me almost an hour to get it all out and she was not happy about it   

I thought it should carry a warning that it may be unsuitable for long haired cats and wrote to the manufacturer. They sent a very nice reply saying they had never heard of this happening before and would consider changing the packaging if they received any more complaints... well they would say that but it was a nice letter in any case, and they sent me a sample of their wood pellets. But by the time they arrived I had tried World's Best which the cat loves and is nice and light to carry up the stairs to my flat. Litter problem sorted

My cats are quite fussy about which litter they use and of course have always favoured that stuff that tracks worst.
With a young baby in the house I am incredibly careful about random litter and am handheld dysoning a couple of times a day.
However, my hubbie bought us one of those PAH tracking mats and we have at last found a litter they will use which doesn't track. It's that recycled paper pellet stuff, no added odour control or anything, but it's incredibly absorbent and manages to snaffle niffs quite well.
