It is nerve racking Gillian, glad Harry was ok with going out and that it is quite safe by yours! ours is not to bad, we have had ramps built on the road a few years ago but sometimes you get these idiots speeding, and Ernie our cat we lost in the early 90's was run over by a motorbike we think because of the idiots speeding and fun riding. :( and also the last year or so buses use the road which they never used to.

Glad the other Gill that you understand me now ;D

he got out a couple of nights ago and it took about two hours to get him in,think he has the taste for it now.

Thats what happened with my Harry, he was going to be a 'run only' cat, but where I used to live, the run had to be built in such a way that it meant peopel coming to the door had to come through the run gate - and I was always checking the gate to make sure people had shut it, but one time postman left it open and Harry was off!! After that he was never happy being confined - even to the large run area full of plants and climbing frames etc - so he had his freedom, and had done ever since - he's 11 now and he'd never be confined again now. So don't know what to suggest really - I had my heart in my mouth every time Harry went out, but, over time I got used to it and where I live now doesnt have any through traffic and has fields around, and I feel is as safe a place as I could be for cats.

Yep he does go into the cat run whenever he wants,it is our house he tries and gets out, when somebody is coming in or going out. If me and hubby have to go out anywhere will have to keep them in our kitchen because thats how they can get into the cat run through the cat flap in the kitchen. My sons can be so forgetful sometimes and will leave the downstairs toilet door open where the other cat flap is for the other two cats we have. When I go to bed at night, I have to wait for everyone else to go because we leave the Bengals in the kitchen, and leave the other door open for the other two cats through the toilet catflap,(am I making sence)

Its not hard but I am confused.

Does he go into the cat run?

If not why not?

If he does , is that where he wants to get out from?

Sorry but its late  ;D

He has been like this for a couple of months but the passed few weeks he has been really bad, scrapping at the windows and everything, he got out a couple of nights ago and it took about two hours to get him in,think he has the taste for it now. With my sons in and out all the time I have to have eyes everywhere, I won't even go to bed untill everyone is in bed case somebody leaves the down stairs toilet open that is where we have a cat flap for the other two cats who have been going out for years, so I can't realy stop them going out. Sabre has just woken up now and guess what he is meowing to go out again. :'(

Your run is amazing - I really don't think there is anything else you could do to make it better, how long has Sabre been like this? If it's not been going on that long maybe he'll stop crying when he realises you're not going to give into him.

Riley goes through phases of wanting to go places he's not allowed, in the old house he was obsessed with the storage cupboard.  I wouldn't let him in there as that's where the iron was kept so I didn't want him to get in the habit of going in there in case he burnt himself.  He snuck in a few times and then spent the next couple of weeks sitting outside the door wailing at the top of his voice.  I ignored him and after a few weeks he stopped bothering about it.

Is your run established? Planting it up to be cat friendly might make him happier. I always think Gillians & Tans gardens look fab for cats  :wow:

Its a hard decision, in the run safe but not 100% happy or out roaming at risk but enjoying it.

Getting so stressed about Sabre he is crying day and night to go out and is trying to excape outside everychance he gets, my sons have let him out by mistake a few times and now he just wants to go out all the time, two of our older cats go out so that is prop making it ten times worse. Simba and Sky arn't that bothered about going out unless somebody let them out, have been trying to play with him more but it is not making any difference, we spent so much money on the cat run to keep them safe, and now its making me feel so guilty listening to him getting stress about going out, don't know what to do. Would be terrified to let him out incase something happened to him. :'( If anyone doesn't know Sabre is a Bengal,so is Simba and Sky.
