Just looked at the link for CP Newcastle and saw this

Yes Kelly thats right , in fact the newcastle cp branch currently has a mother and son for adoption , mum is a tortie and her son is mostly ginger and white with black splodges on his back and apparently that officially makes him a tortie too! http://http://www.cats-protection-newcastle.co.uk/catsforadoption.htm

You can get male torties they are just very rare!

I didn't think you could get male tortoiseshell cats?  It could be that this is a girl or maybe it's a boy but not tortoiseshell?  Hope it's reunited with it's owners soon.

Large Adult Male tortoise Shell Cat. Small white mark on face and white paws (Black stripe down its body). No Collar.. Not Chipped! Found sitting at my back door meowing.. Now comes everyday for breakfast and tea! If you have lost him, or know him.. PLEASE CALL ME! I have put a collar around his next with a tag giving you my details.. He is very friendly.. THANKS !
