I think it's down to individual temperament too.  Jaffa will respond to 'no' and Magpie would too.  But Mosi is totally different and a very wilful cat.

I think part of it is also owning oldies, they dont seem as bad at getting into things. Zia tried to stand on the computer desk earlier, so just gently got put back on the bed.

I'm afraid Mosi completely ignores me if I shout or say No.  If I move towards him he will  move, but otherwise he will just give a look of sheer disdain and continue with what he is doing.

Awwww they are gorgeous!  :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

The only way you'll get cats to do what you want is perseverance and above all consistency.  It doesn't always work even then.  My three know the meaning of 'no', because whenever I say it to them I pick them up and firmly put them away from where they were.  They have now got the message that 'no' means that there's no point in arguing cause they will be woman-handled if they try.  It's easier for them just to respond to the 'no'.

As suggested below, cable tidies rock!  They're not cheap, for what they are, but they really do work, and ... well ... keep your cables tidy as well!  ;D  The 'zip' type are especially good, and re-useable too.

For what it's worth, it shouldn't do your puter or your kitties any harm by them sitting on it, as long as you 'defluff' your pc every so often so it doesn't end up overheating (mine's got a little filter which I'm supposed to clean out every few weeks but almost always forget) *note to self - de-fluff pc*

I just shout (as i do with the kids  :evillaugh: )  and yep all my animals know when they are in the wrong ... whether they act or not is a different kettle of fish but they do know and most times scurry off  ;)

Licia - they very occasinally try and get on teh computer desk, and do get told off (I have lots of clutter on here) - my computer is next to my bed though, so the girls are normally much happier either on my knee or on the bed next to me.

You can try, C13o, but yours will probably be the exceptions who prove the rule if you are there and they are warm, that's where they will stay

They are gorgeous  :Luv: :Luv:  Esp Dante (I have a soft spot for gingetrs  ;) ).

Don't know what to suggest about the computer.  A cable tidy will protect the cables.  Is it possible to put the tower in a place where it's just not possible for them to reach? Mind you, having said that - I have a computer desk with a specific space for a tower unit.  There is little room on top of it but it's enough for Mosi to squeeze into and lie on top of it.

How cute Dante and Evie are, I love the name "Dante", too!! :Luv:

They are both lovely - you could either use a cloth or a baby wipe on Dante. Not sure on advice for hte computer, my lot know they aren't allowed on there by me saying no.

They do?  How amazing are they really cats? :wow:  (oh, but you just said they know, you didn't say they know and they don't go there :evillaugh: )

If Dante likes to perch on the puter (or monitor?) probably he is attracted to the heat generated, plus he can be close to you at the same time.  Perhaps you can draw another chair up close with something like hot water bottle for him to cuddle with on top.

We are now using LCD monitor and on the desk there is a gaping gap behind the screen where the big bulky old monitor used to take up that space, Oliver adopted that to one of his favourite spot to chill, especially while I am using the puter.  I tried to discourage him but well, no use  :tired:  Thankfully he doesn't play or chew on the cables he is quite cool except that he occasionally stick out his paw from under the monitor and tries to type something with me, but if your kitties do probably you can use the security device to cover up the cables (usually used for rodent proofing).

Good luck and enjoy your little bundles of luv!! :Luv:  :Luv:

Nah, I mean the actual tower, which is up quite high past my head. I guess it's because it's warm.  :evillaugh: But yeah, I don't want him sniffing at the cables, and I don't mind them being in here and clambering around except for when they perch on the computer.

I heard that cats hate walking on aluminium foil or double-sided sticky tape... should I give it a shot?

only way to stop that is to close the door I am afraid. The top of the screen is a) warm and b) where you are looking. Of course a cat will love to sit there! They are gorgeous BTW :Luv:

Oooooooooooooh so gorgeous!  I have no help to give - only an ooooooooooh! So gorgeous they are!

My computer is in my study. The only 'forbidden room' in the house.  Except, of course, for Winston. He is, of course, allowed access at any time. Indeed, it is more his room than mine. I call it my study but, really, it's his room...   (what can I say?)    ...   As for the computer? Well, when he is feels that I am not paying appropriate attention to him, he will come up and sit on the mouse/mouse pad/ keyboard. And then we stop and cuddle. He leaves it alone otherwise.

No help at all to you. But your babies ARE gorgeous!!!!!!!  I wish you and they long, long lovely journeys together!

Here they are. :D They're both 5 months old.

Evey (girl)

Dante (boy)

Dante just came and woke me up to play with him.  :Luv: He's a bit smelly though; he doesn't seem to wash the underside of his hindpaws after he's used his litterbox... should I just clean that with a cloth and some water?

Also, he loves perching on top of my computer, but I reaaaally really don't want him there - he thinks the cables are fun to play with. How can I stop him from going up there? He's completely unphased by lemon juice.
