I think so long as you're using decent foods whether wet or dry and backign it up with fresh meats and fish, etc that you'll see good results with a balanced diet.   ;)

I have to admit I'm not a fan of dry only diets... especially in kittens.  :tired:

We use the burgess supacat dry for our cats and they get a tasty bite of wet morning and evening... our lot are all a really good weight and fantastic sheeny coats in good condition.  So I'd definately say that there are other foods out there that give the same results.  ;)

?????

I agree, i feed lots of brands and the vet is always impressed with my lot  :Luv:

I think they changed the formula of Iams a while back at about the same time it started appearing in supermarkets. I used to feed Iams dry when Jaffa was little (years ago, before I knew about the cruelty thing).  I think a lot of the dry foods have oils and fatty acids added to produce glossy coats but that doesn't mean it's a healthy food or that the cat is necessarily healthy inside.  I do think that we are victim to the same thing with pets as we are with human hair - thinking the hyper glossy look = healthy.  Good hair condition (whether it be humans or cats) is equated with good health but the super sleek, shiny look that we tend to expect these days is often achieved artificially and a bit fake imo.  I can get my hair looking really shiny if I use the right products but I eat rubbish and am probably not very healthy inside  ;D

Having said that, Mosi has pretty shiny fur but I think that's because he's young and healthy and eats a good diet in general.  Jaffa's is less shiny but it's a bit lighter than Mosi's so doesnt' reflect the light so well and he's older.  It's pretty good when he's taking a viacutin capusle each day.

I don't buy it for obvious reasons but I went to see my friend the other day. Her cats are the sleekest, healthiest looking cats you could imagine.

Can i just ask why folk don't use Iams? I don't either after my vet said Bertie was putting weight on and Iams was probably the cause - so I went back to Hills. The only reason I had stopped getting the Hills was that I had to make a trip over the other side of the city to get it which wasn't always easy and he seemed to go off it sometimes.

Funnily enough my wee man would wolf down dry food, not touch wet unless it was in jelly and then he only ate the jelly!! The only non dry I could give him was the occasional tin of tuna as a treat bless! ;)

Cruelty Reasons. if you google iams cruelty you should find what was written.

The breeder that our Bengals come from feeds Iams dry and raw meat and her cats are all gorgeous.

I dont buy Iams anymore - same reason as Mark. Mine have a different varity of dried as this is what Thai mainly eats, she is a bit of a porker bless, because of this. I am trying to get her to eat more wet food and Zebedee more dried because of his teeth. But they swop, thai goes to the dried and Zeb wet. Zubin eats when he is hungry, if he dont like the wet I have given him he eats the dried.

I take its the dry she constantly feeds hers on then?  I am still not convinced that an all dry diet is healthy :tired:

Yes, that's all they get. Another friends mum did exactly the same with her two maine coons - also the picture of health

I have to add that Willow used to have it but she was often sick and it stained the carpet

DO NOT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE

My friend feeds soleys Iams dry. She's just lost her 14 year old but her 2 year old Bengal looks stunning. She's sooooooooo healthy and her coat is exceptional. I had no idea and wouldn't have guessed they were being fed on iams. Her cats always drink plenty of water. She's just got a Savannah but he's eating something else. I'm guessing she wants him to go onto Iams soon. She started feeding Iams because it was the only food her eldest cat (RIP  :'( ) did well on, and he looked super as well. You'd never have guessed he was sick.

lay me down take it slow I'm ready to stumble, sing & then swing low

I don't buy it for obvious reasons but I went to see my friend the other day. Her cats are the sleekest, healthiest looking cats you could imagine. She really has a low-maintenenance attitude towards cats. They go the the vets regularly etc but shejust puts a big bowl of Iams down and a bowl of water and lets them get on with it.
She said she understand my resons but as her cats do so well on it, she won't change it. They aren't overweight or anything. If she goes away for a few days, she just puts extra Iams out - they are 6 years old now and you would think they are 2!
