Received this email regarding a visit from a couple she had today with a view to giving Breeze a permanent home:

"It went very well. :o) As soon as they came in Breezy went straight over and said hello.

Breezy has gone for a two week trial to make sure they are happy with her and vice versa. The lady seems very knowledgeable and is well aware vet bills are a good possibility the older Breezy gets.

Real bonus in that she doesn't live far from us at all and is happy for us to visit Breezy when we want which is reassuring.

Very sad day for us as we've both got attached to her after two years. I really think it will be in her best interest to be an only cat. She will be happier and our other two girls will be happier."

I'm so pleased for her. I know she's been trying to find the right home for Breeze for a while.

I do get the impression the lady is a genuine, caring individual that feels she's tried every other avenue and isn't prepared to just give Breeze away on a "first come, first served" basis after having contact with her.

I've actually been in touch with other people rehoming animals via Freecycle and it has to be said this is the first time the person has come across as actually REALLY caring where the animal ends up.

I'm vaguely aware of who this person is from another forum and she is a definite supporter of rescue and spaying/neutering animals and I have seen this cat up for rehoming several months ago now, she's not the sort of owner to abandon her pet, just trying different avenue to try and get it rehomed.  There is clearly a genuine problem with her having taken this cat on and discovered that both it and her existing cats are extremely unhappy so the pragmatic thing to do after having tried everything, has to be to rehome.   She is clearly at the 'last resort' stage, having been unable to rehome and having unhappy animals at home - but I suspect that she is simply using freecycle as another avenue to try and find a good home rather than as a place to 'get rid'.  I personally am always suspicious of things like freecycle/freeads for animals as I think they may attract people looking for a pet they don't have to pay for, but there are plenty of 'genuine' people on there too, so as long as appropriate checks etc are done, then if the end result is a good home for a needy animal - so be it.

I actually really like Freecycle as a site, I just don't agree with putting animals on it. :) I put household items on it, and get household items from it from time to time.

KElly checks freecycle sites for us, in case there are things we can use (we have had answerphones, shredders, stationery, bedding, kittens!!), so they can be useful for rescues

I know JS... and I hope she does find someone genuine.  :)

I too have emailed our local freecycle groups but they never even bother to respond to my emails.  We did have a comment posted tho to say that if people post on Freecycle and want to give stuff away for free then they 'MUST' be decent, law abiding, people who can be trusted with the care of animals.

How being a  Freecycle poster = being a responsible pet owner and a stand up member of the cummunity is beyond me!!!    (OK... that's me said my piece)

I genuinely do hope she finds a home for this wee one... and can appreciate her using the site as a last resort.  I just wish that not so many people would use it as a first choice!

Freecycle is a way of getting rid of something that you cant be arsed to take to the tip, how does this apply to animals?  :-:

MKR, I know what you mean. I've been emailing our local Freecycle for months now asking them to reconsider allowing animals on for rehoming. I think there are safer ways.

To be fair to the lady with Breeze, I KNOW she's tried using established rehoming sites with no success. I think this was a last resort.

to be honest this happens all too often with many cats dogs or other animals through freecycle.

Personally I don't agree with it and I think those running the sites should stop the posting of animals in this manner as I feel they are treated like 'objects'  and it wouldn't be the first time I've seen ' I got her from another freecycler a few months ago'

sorry... but it really bugs me.

Do hope this wee one gets a  GOOD home though.

I don't think anything's sorted - I think Ela has just crossposted on CatChat.

I received a very polite email from the young lady that has Breeze, and apparantly she has been trying to intergrate her with her other cats for two years. When she was given Breeze she was told she had no problem with other cats - they were fibbing. She apparantly actively stalks the other cats and monopolises the food. She's completely unphased by dogs, though.

There is a couple coming to view Breeze at the weekend, and she's promised to let me know how it goes. :)

I think she might be away (what's new  :evillaugh: ) at the moment as she isn't posting much. Will you post on Catchat just in case the woman checks progress?

I have to dash off now to Sharon's to get another trap as a man is driving us crazy and called to say the trap we gave him didn't work  :tired:

on Freecycle:

White/tortoiseshell, 12 yr old, spayed and micro chipped girl. Fully
litter trained. Spends most of her time indoors but does go outside
every now and then. Friendly lap cat. Lives with dogs happily but does
not tolerate other cats very well.

Photos on request. Transport possible.

I'm a bit concerned that if noone shows an interest in this girl, she'll be plonked somewhere. What would you do if this was on your local Freecycle?
