my next dilemma.....

jasper doesnt wear collars. i buy them, he looses them.  ^suzie^ was expert at this too.

i bout jasper a new cat flap when i got him but as said he is ahem... a little larger now!!!  so need another one.  do i go for the normal (cheaper  ;D ) four way locking one or do i spend more and get the magnet one that really, he will loose.  we do have the problem of other cats coming in sometimes, though that is better now since the orrible one got in and couldnt get out and scared itself silly (jasper the ever alert watch cat was fast asleep upstairs and never knew a thing   )  he hasnt been back since.

ho hum.  if only the petporte was cheap and large!!!!!  i really think thats the best kind around  :)

thats what i thought bc. but was impressed at all the settings - very handy for lots of cats.

ooooooo yes it does look wonderful doesn't it. But it requires that you use collars which I don't... :(

This was the other one I looked at:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Staywell-280-Big-Cat-Flap/dp/B0007RD9OA/ref=pd_sbs_lp?ie=UTF8&qid=1200146815&sr=8-2

But the hole is over 29cm which seems a tad big, and given that my two know how to open windows, I reckon they could scrabble at and turn those locks if they decided they wanted to!  Plus it doesn't have the draught excluder.

I did start off ordering one online but then got an email saying that catmate are having manufacturing problems (hence you'll see a lot of 'out of stock' online) but should be back to normal by the end of Jan.  But I wanted one before that hence hunting one out from a shop  ;)

There are several websites which sell them like http://www.catmate.co.uk (although interestingly if you look at the contact details of all the main catflap sites from google they all seem to point to the same company ) but I eventually got it from Seapets in Colchester, because the brown one I wanted wasn't in stock online.   They don't sell them at my PAH either.

My PAH doesn't have them. Where did you find them? Granted Smidgen is a little more rambunctious than most cats, but I came home to a cat flap in four pieces the other evening  :censored: It all fitted back together again, but that's hardly the point really! Will consider replacing the one I have if I can find a better one somewhere ...

i think that catmate are a bit better than staywell
I've prodded a large number of catflaps over the past week or two and have to say I definitely agree - I've plumped on a catmate 211 for my larger lad.  The staywell equivalent needs a substantially bigger hole in the door although the actual opening size isn't much different to the catmate, plus the catmate has sturdier looking locks and has a draught excluder around it, the staywell one only has a little magnet to hold it in place.

How large is really large?  I also need one for Geoffrey who is 7.23kg...I just muddied myself by visiting PAH and the staywell 290 is for cats up to 10kg and 180mm shoulder width.  They also had a staywell 755 (I think) which is for small dogs so it was slightly bigger again.

There was a small dog flap in my old garden flat which was perfect for Kylie. The one we have now is like squeezing toothpaste out of the tube. You hear a sliding sound as she goes through  :evillaugh:

get a dogflap instead - one for a small dog breed like a maltese terrier type, they come in various sizes as I discovered yesterday when shopping for mine
