WEll, he is still being a bit picky with his food (but then I would if I had had that many teeth out - and the vet assumed i had Metacam in, and for the first time in ages, I dont). I have bought him some supermeat today to see if he finds that easier, but he did manage half of his Felix Roasted straight from the pouch, with no mashing needed. Sadly, it hasn't stopped him having issues with one of the neighbourhood cats, and he certainly does have redirected aggression issues - he went to nip me today for the first time, after I stepped in and separated them. It also isn't stopping him trying to kill his 'Shaun the sheep' toy.

i'm glad to hear he's come through ok.
Rolo is a lovely cat, he loves attention and plays like a kitten. When we went to collect Gypsy; Rolo laid on my hubby's chest and purred like an engine.

He would make a perfect only cat, as he is mischevious with the others.

If we'd thought Rolo and Garfy would get on we probably would have come home with Rolo, but unfortunately he does wind the other up and we didn't think it would be fair on either of them.

Good luck finding him a home Desley, i'm sure it won't be too long.

I cannot deny that a cat lover and his cat have a master/slave relationship. The cat is the master.

Atleast he sounds bright enough today des.  (got your email btw, will try and answer later on)

he sounds like a funny old chap, he has all the good behaviours there and obviously wants to play but he's just abit misguided, like he's got a good heart really but not had the best upbringing !

He is still happily playing - he ignored me putting the Sheba (only pate food I had in other than a/d - he only likes the first half tin of htat), but as soon as I opened the Whiskas tin, he was off the windowsill and straight in the kitchen!! I didn't even get chance to try and mash it for him!! He nibbled, had a play then ran back into the kitchen for more!! He is getting rougher with his play, i have new scratches. So defo not being homed with children.

I have just been talking to a friend on the US forum, and it made me realise just how lucky Rolo is - they struggle to home adults, never mind seniors, so would have prob pts, at least that is never going to happen to him unless he has real medical issues - he does still have pale, smelly poo's as I found out this morning.

ah poor lad getting all those teeth out but i'm glad he has in a way.  He'll have a sore mouth for a few days  :(

Least its less trouble for the future and even if he does get gum flare ups then short courses of meds will prob be enough.

Hope he's still feeling chirpy tomorrow des, prob the post ga munchies made him eat the pouches at the vets but atleast you know he's had enough to eat today so if he's not so keen tomorrow not to worry to much.

give him a gentle head rub from me

He certainly does Lynn - vet couldnt feel anything untoward with his bladder, so didn't do a sample. The fact that when I stopped him, he went into the kitchen and used the tray says to me it was a 'I'll show you for stopping me fighting!!'
Poor Rolo has had 11 teeth out, so only got 2 left!! Vet says he definitely has calicivirus (and that is just going off his teeth and gums, not doing tests - I had suspected that at weekend though), so I am more annoyed about the rescues vet not picking this up. Vet thinks that there shouldn't be too much risk to the other cats as it isn't something that affects every cat, and at least if it does flare up again, he only has 2 teeth left. I do feel as though I have to tell potential owners though and fortunately he was going to be rehomed as an only cat anyway. he has been a bit picky with his food (but due to the fact he ate 2 pouches at the vets, I Think he is playing on me!!), but is happily playing, so I have left the room to see if he will settle and sleep off his anaesthetic!! It took me ages to take off his bandage cos all he wanted to do was play!!

Thanks - Rolo will be here till he finds a home - the longest it has taken me is 14 months, I do hope Rolo isn't here that long, but if he is, then he is. Did have aggression issues last night, first a neighbourhood cat wound him up, so he came and sprayed in the house in front of me (dont think he appreciated me stopping him beating that cat up this time - first time I have seen him since the last time Rolo beat him up though!! I will ask the vet to check his wee in case there is a medical reason for it though), and he got bothered by one of the fosters and was very aggressive, he would allow you to stroke him, but nothing more, I tried to get him to nuzzle my dressing gown (his favourite activity), but all I got was hissing and growling, so we resorted to toys. He did however think the hand holding the toy was good to play with!!
He isn't very happy at not having food today though, or being allowed out.

I feel frustrated for you des coz i know you wish he'd settle in with the other cats abit better.

I guess aswell if he does actually need to get the bulk of the teeth taken out then potentially that is less costs that may be required in the future so perhaps less of a "gamble" for new owners to take on.

IT is, I am getting nervous about it already - most people get nervous over spays - I get nervous over dentals!! After seeing how bad his gums got in less than a month, I am hoping she can take the bulk of them out and that he wont have any recurrences, but it is something I am gogin to have to disclose when someone shows an interest in him and an insurance company isn't going to touch him for his teeth as we already know there is a problem. We offer to cover costs in cats over the age of 12, but they have to use the rescues vet, and if it was up to them, he would be on steroid jabs, and we dont like those due to the risks they carry. If only I could convince him to stop causing issues, as he could stay here then (although I can't afford him either really)

MM, never realised we were so close. No enquiries yet, we had one when he first came, but they have other cats, so it isn't suitable. WE are suspecting that he is older than 10 though.
Will do that thanks Lynn.

Glad to hear his ears are improved, just remind them to have a good exam of them when he's under the ga.  Good luck for his dental too, sounds like the most sensible plan and hopefully nail his mouth probs once and for all.

He is, and it is a shame, cos otherwise I could have kept him - even the vet passed comment on how much he loves me, and she does think he is wonderful, so hopefully others will see that, and I also hope he isn't too attached to me and will accept a new home.

Thanks everyone, his ears are much better, but vet said to still try and clean them every other day - I will see how much he tolerates!! Hopefully, a home can be found for him after his dental - he showed his dislike of going to the vets by finding a cat to pick on - but he came back with a cut!!

WEll, he has been back to the vet, and his teeth are worse (she is going to take the bulk of htem out, as he does have red gums, and no point leaving them in for him to go back under - learnt my lesson with that one), so he is booked in for a dental next Thursday - my vet is off the rest of this week, and the beginning of next, and as I dont know who teh vet is who will operate, I decided not to risk it, I dont want another vet saying his teeth are fine!! he has put weight on, so no need to worry about his thyroid, and the vet has fallen in love with him, but sadly can't have him!!

The vet can check them tomorrow - I have tried to look and one of his fangs do look worse, I might be as well booking him in for a dental than put him back on Antirobe, as all it is going to do is help, it wont cure it. Typically bad timing, car needs to go to the garage on Thurs, and my teeth need looking at!!
