Thankyou for your replies.
I thought that a female would make a better companion for my tonk but now I'm happy to introduce a male.
The tonk is 18 months old and the sphynx is 5 months, I will "suck it and see" as blackcat put it and hopefully they will take to each other in time.
Woohoo, excited now. :)

I suppose it depends on what you want.  Do you want a girl because you think 2 females will get on better than one male and one female?  Personally, I prefer male cats and have only had males.  From what I've heard, males in general tend to accept newcomers easier than females, though obv it's hard to generalise and there's no reason why 2 females can't get on if you introduce them properly.  It's more down to personality than gender.

I personally prefer male/female combinations, my biggest problems are with female cats, I have only had a couple of troublesome male fosters (both large black and white toms!!).
Please spay your cat

It's difficult to generalise, and I don't know much about Sphinxes, but Tonks are personality cats, and I suspect the same applies to Sphinx. A boy cat is frequently more laid back than a girl and personally I usually prefer to have a mix, but when I have had same-sex households they have been boys, not girls, because they get on better. I am afraid it is a case of suck it and see  really ... If the boy is still fairly young that will also help

Hello,
I have a female Tonkinese cat and I've been looking for a female Sphynx kitten. I've managed to track down a male sphinx kitten and before I get too excited, I'm trying to find out if they should get on ok or if I should hold out for a female instead.
The Sphynx male has been neutered and my female Tonk is spayed, I know how knowledgable you are on here and am hoping for some advice please.
Thankyou!
