Kittygirl, if you edit your title and add on "help with vets fees in the US" more people will see it and comment, there are several users who have helped other people in the states get the vet care they need.
Im afraid i have no idea what help is available other side of the sea.  :(

:luck:

peoples dispensary for sick animals - it provides vet care for people on low incomes (assessed on whether they are in assisted housing). and yes, vets in the US are expensive!!

Hi all and thanks for your replies. I'm not in Ireland I live in the US. The vet told us she's do a skin scraping but it sounded too expensive. What is PSDA?  :thanks:

I have a feeling that Kittygirl may be in Ireland - is PDSA available there?

It sounds likely to be a licking lesion, that needs treatment if it covers most of her belly. But I couldn't guarantee that - she really does need a check up just to rule out anything too serious.

yes i agree, she should be seen by the vet and treated for whatever the cause is. PDSA will help if you are on a limited income. No animal should suffer discomfort needlessly. when your vet told you it would cost money for the tests, did he/she name any of the possibilities that were being considered. I would have thought a simple skin scraping would cover most potential causes ...

It could be a multitude of things, ringworm, overgrooming from stress, food allergies, grass allergy......

It may not be harmful to health but it will certainly be uncomfortable for her which could affect her quality of life.

You really need to start veterinary treatment asap, are you in the UK? The PDSA offer assistance to those on low income/benefits.

Hi and   :welcome:  to Purrs

Sorry that I cannot help you about the bald patch but I am sure somebody will be along that has had experience of this.  It may be helpful if you could post a picture of it.  Whereabouts are you?

Just trying to find out why my cat has a bald patch on her belly. It started real small and now covers almost all of her belly. She licks at it a lot. The vet said we could have her tested for skin problems but it'd be really expensive. If it is a skin disorder, is it harmful to her health?

Thx
