Hi Mark,

I think it was about £6 ish from Woolies and I've seen them on the web for about the same price. I put a little water in the trough-like base, put the fish on the steaming tray thing with holes in it and the lid on and give the fish about 3 minutes on high in a 800W micro. I keep the lid on (and the smell out) while the fish cools down.

Glad the boys are fine,

Thanks for the tip Leigh. I will get one for Kylie's coley. Also have some smoked haddock in the freezer so will see how well it holds the smell in

Hi,

I bought a microwave fish steamer thingy wotsit doodah like the one in the picture especially for them from Woolworths as I hate the smell (and taste) of steamed fish, it makes me feel quite nauseated and I can't use the cooker extractor hood as it makes a sound like a jump jet taking off and scares the living daylights out of the puds. It works very well and has a base into which one can put water, milk etc. with small holes above that and a covered lid. It cooks fish very well and very fast and the combination of the lid and being enclosed in the microwave keeps most of the smell in. It also doubles as a microwave vegetable steamer so it's a usefull bit of kit. In Kingston we have a great open air fish market and I bought some beautiful trout for them recently which cooked to perfection in this contraption. Unfortunately I didn't have enough cash left to get them a nice bottle of white wine to wash it down  ;D

Cheers

Leigh

Marco isn't to bad just a little bit quieter than usual but Polo acting like he has been in the wars :) gingerly walking every where and making a big song of getting in his bed

Stig thinks its great fish for tea and not getting chased around by his big brothers

They never ate much but did take a biscuit treat ok, Stig cleared his bowl then went after theirs ;D

Good luck to the boys  ;D  I'm sure they'll love their fishy tea however you cook it  ;)

Personally I would go with bake in foil in the oven, but only 'cos that's how I always cook me salmon!

I like fish and normally the smell doesn't bother me, unless it is lingering for a while. When I was preganant with bad morning sickness we had a japanese lodger though who cooked some sort of rice / fish porridge stuff for breakfast each day -   .

Good luck for the boys tomorrow!

Really cannot bear the smell of fish . Very occasionally Archie has cod and I microwave it. With his prawns I defrost them in boiling water

I love fish me so the smell is not a problem :) I cook fish for me all the time but wasn't sure if microwaving it was ok for kitties, was going to steam if all else fails just quicker in microwave and kitties won't mind :)

I must confess, I cook a lot of fish and I have never thought of baking it  :shy:  for us, I usually stir fry, or steam if it is to be served with a sauce.

Sounds good - I'm just lazy as once you have made a parcel you don't have to do anything to it while it cooks. I stick in herbs, lemon etc. too but don't think the cats want that!  ;D

would it not stick to foil, unless you butter the foil?

No, it gives off enough juice when cooking to steam itself, skin side down on foil and seal tightly.

if you over do it in microwave it would be chewy.

No, I disagree - if you overdo it in the microwave it will just break up: plaice wont go chewy  :Luv:  But you only have to do it for a couple of minutes in a bit of water in a microwave - would it not stick to foil, unless you butter the foil?

Yuk fish smells  mine only get tinned cos it smells less. Baked in foil would give the nicest texture for them, if you over do it in microwave it would be chewy.

Smells less if you wrap in foil and bake in oven for 15 - 20 mins, medium hot. Foil traps some of the fishy smell.

When mine got back from their "day trip / adventure", I cooked them fish in some foil for about 20 mins in the oven.

All the best for tomorrow  :Luv:

Do you have a microwave?  If so, just pop the plaice in, covered, for a few minutes in some water until it turns opaque.  If you do not have a microwave, just put it in a saucepan with a little water and simmer for a couple of minutes.  Serve at room temperature.

Good luck to the littluns for tomorrow.

Fish  Ooh it smells so bad......

Nice for kitties though I guess - and a very kind thought. (or a guilty conscience?   :evillaugh: )

I guess it's quite easy to microwave it? Or whack it on a baking tray in the oven. (I'm such a wimp with meat etc, if I have to cook it for the animals if they're ill I have to handle it with gloves on!  )

Good luck to the boys tomorrow, they'll be pleased to get home anyway so fish will just make you even more popular!
