It may be due to a too sudden transition or there may be an ingredient in the JWB that doesn't agree with your friend's cat.  Might be worth looking at the ingredients and comparing them to the Go Cat to see if there's anything in the JWB that isn't in the Go Cat.  Although JWB is hypo allergenic, there can still be an ingredient that an individual cat might be sensitive too.  I'd try the turkey flavour as that might be a bit gentler on the stomach.  If he's still being sick then obviously that's no good but I would still persevere with a better quality dry food unless Go Cat is the only thing that doesn't make him sick.  But make sure any transitions are done slowly.

Am currently in the process of switching my two from Go cat indoor (rubbish meat content) to Pets at Home own brand lite (as somebody needs to lose some weight) so far so good.

They both love the new food, and am gradually giving more of the new and less of the old. Cats have such sensitive tummies bless em   :shy:

The important thing to remember when changing food, especially from a poor quality to a high quality is to do it gradually, at least a 2 week period mixing the new with the wet, and gradually increasing the new food. I think your friend should do it gradually and give it a chance, she will probably notice a big difference in his coat.

I would also say its not just the coat. Thats just an outward sign of good health. Imagine how much better their organs etc are if the are getting the correct nutrition. Leads to a happier, healthier, longer living kitty.

IF she did it gradually, then either feed a mixture, or maybe try something different. They shouldnt, JWB should be the easiest, what flavour has she tried? I am lucky iwht mine, I can swap and change, but they eat a mix of 2-3 foods all the time anyway.

No other brands may but you also could end up in a situation like Cosmic with a cat whose stomach gets so upset and the other end suffers to.

Personally I would put him back onto the food that doesnt upset him, one problem is that if you keep changing the food and they get ill because of it , it then becomes hard to find one that they will eat and is tollerated cos their little system cannot cope any more.

(shes here with me this is why I can answer so quick) :evillaugh:

She said she did do it gradually.  She still wants to try a good quality food but is worried if one brand don't suit him, they all won't suit him,is this the case?

Did she just swap his food straight over? If so, mixing the two should help. If not, it may just be too rich for him.

He's been on it now for nearly a month, although he's not sick every day he's sick at least 4-5 times a week.  Do you think she should continue with it even though it makes him sick?  Is it just a matter of his stomach adjusting to it?

I just checked with my friend and she feeds him Omega Tasty?  Don't think I have ever heard of it but is it a good food?  She is almost certain its the jwb that makes him sick but all her other 4 cats love it but like she said she'll go back to omega tasty as they all like that.  I kind of feel guilty about buying her a bag to try out, especially since one of them is sick after it :(

yes it could be making him sick.

I am a firm believer in not changing a cats food from what they are used to unless their is a health reason for this.

I would give the cat what it used to eat and if the sickness stops , then you have the answer.

If the cat is still being sick a vet visit is needed

I know some on Purrs like to feed their cats very high meat food but some cats dont like it , like mine and cats have lived on the basic foods like felix and whiskeres etc for years without problems.

The most important thing is that the cats like their food and its a complete food.

I recently told my friend about JWB and shes changed her cats onto it now.  But one of her cats is sick and all she can think about what could cause it is the change of food,he was sick from the 1st day but not sick everyday if that makes any sense.

Could JWB be making him sick. Could it be too rich for him etc?  He is used to go-cat and he is 8 years old :)
