I quite agree with you I could never part with any of my five cats
Hubby's daughter said something like that to me a few months ago because our other two wern't getting on with our Bengals at first,she said I know it sounds horrible but could you find a home for Geri and Corky
I said no way I wouldn't of ever thought about doing something like that

Everyone knows that they just can't throw their children out of the house just because the going got tough or circumstance has changed or the brat was being difficult or whatever.
They must know that there is no difference in this argument when it comes to a pet. You are talking of a family member, not a disposable toy.
I really wish there were some obligatory educational programme a new owner must take before they take the plunge without giving enough thoughts. And the message this poem carries is one of the essential awarenesses they must understand and remember.

Hi, Lovely Poem.
it also reminded me that one of my furbabes is a Rescue Cat..Sylvester (Bless Him), he was left outside the local RSPCA centre in a cardboard Box
. Reminded me because I also took him home on November 5th..so he'll be having a little Party on that day, Takes his mind off the Fireworks!
Some people just seem to think any pet is a disposable commodity with no emotional needs or attachments. makes me so Mad
Sylsuki is also a Rescue Cat...but I got her from a foster home as a kitten, so not really abandoned as such (she wanted a mention!)

I dont suppose you know statistics for this but how many cats do you think are once in loving homes and then decide to leave - go wild (feral). I am thinking in particular of the "lost" cats of which there are plenty. My cat Gizmo disappeared last year and it is as if she just vanished off the face of the earth, there is no way of course that she was dumped. We would welcome her back today if she decided to come home.

I only wish it did CC, but sadly we live in a disposable society these days. There are some cats who come into care through genuine reasons, and in some cases, it is better for the cat, in those situations, it is a good thing.

Wonderful poem.
Just had to remind myself that Freddie and Billy Whiz both rescues once. I'd completely forgotten coz this is their home and still can't get it into my head that they weren't wanted once. Completely unbelievable!

Mine have grumbled their way through cuddles and promises of being their final home tonight, Molly is one of hte ones who very nearly didnt get a forever home.
I agree completely Sue, it really is so rewarding to know that you have made such a difference to a cats (or any animals) life, and I wish more people would give the adults and seniors a chance, rather than overlooking them for cute kittens.

That's a lovely poem Desley, I talk to my puds all the time and tell them that they'll never be cold, wet, hungry and lonely ever again. Alfie was very timid when I got him and I was told that the lady who initially fostered him had him in a large cage in the garden and he would hide in a corner whenever any human or another cat came near. He's a different cat now, I can stroke him anywhere, his tummy, his front and back legs and he often rolls on the floor showing his tummy and inviting me to tickle it or sleeps in this position. He always comes to the bottom of my stairs and sits by my front door to greet me when I get in from work. He even accepted the arrival of both Mum's cat Suzie and Frankie who I adopted after him with very little fuss. So, he's gone from being scared of humans and other cats to a very loving and trusting companion, as the Beetles said:
All you need is love
Makes me very sad to think of the cats and dogs out there roaming the streets hungry and forlorn but happy when I think about all the loving compasionate folks out there who give so much of themselves to aid animals in distress. Those who don't care about animals are spiritually poorer.
Cheers
Leigh

Found this and thought i would share
I Adopted Your Pet Today
I adopted your pet today...
The one you left at the pound;
The one you had for ten years
And no longer wanted around.
I adopted your pet today...
Did you know that he's lost weight?
Did you know he's scared and depressed
And seems to have lost all faith?
I adopted your pet today...
He had fleas and a little cold;
Guess you don't care what shape he's in
- As you abandoned him I am told.
I adopted your pet today...
Were you having a baby or moving away?
Did you suddenly develop allergies,
Or was there NO reason he couldn't stay?
I adopted your pet today...
He doesn't play or even eat much;
I guess he's very sad inside and
It'll take time for him to trust.
I adopted your pet today...
And here he is going to stay;
He's found his FOREVER home
And a warm bed in which to lay.
I adopted your pet today...
And shall give him all that he will need
- Patience, love, and security,
So he can forget your selfish deed.
