It gets better!  This afternoon Portia started to purr while I rubbed her ears.  I don't know who was more surprised.  She had an expression of "Is that me" on her face.  They also came downstairs when my grandson (nearly 5) visited and then Ollie ran back up.  Portia stayed down while we ate and patted me a couple of times with her paw in the hopes a piece of chicken would come her way.  Of course it did, so then Ollie had to have room service.  Still, what are we slaves for?

Well done Puddy!! :wow:  It takes such a gentle perseverance to conquer a shy baby, if you are too pushy it makes things even worse.  But when this moment comes there is no better reward in the world, one of the best, fuzziest feeling one can ever experience!!  Keep working on Oliver, before you know you will have a pair of purring velcros around your feet!! ;) :Luv:

The advice about the hidey hole is very good.  If Portia is feeling that things are a bit much, she goes behind the TV, then when she feels more settled she wanders out again.  I think she is getting more confident about things, but she knows we won't disturb her in her corner.

Greta news, so pleased fopr you ;D

About Mary bc is right, dont rush her she will do things in her own time. If you take away her hidy hole , you take away her security too and she will not trust you.

Excellent, she'll be having full blown bellly rubs this time next week at this rate  ;D  Come on Oliver, follow your sisters lead  :)

I like your optimism i was wondering why Mary while on the book shelf looking down at her old hiding hole which i blocked to get her to come out more well after all this time i got home today and she is back in their looking quite scared head bowed and she was this sad look in her eyes  i have no idea why  She must have been looking at a way to get back in their wish i knew what the problem was

Great news!  ;D   I'm sure Oliver will follow Portia's lead eventually.  If she's happy to be stroked by you, your scent will be on her and Oliver will be able to smell it so that might help him get used to you.

Yesterday it happened.  Portia was sitting on the stairs and she let me rub her ears and actually pushed against my hand for more.  This is the first time she has allowed me to touch her at all and then this morning she let me stroke right down her back!  I feel over the moon.  Oliver still can't make his mind up about whether being gently stroked is nice or not.  She may be small, but Portia could eat for England.  She has now taken to sitting near us while we eat in the hopes something might come her way.  This, I might add, is on top of the 3 or 4 meals during the day - talk about a stomach on legs
