I don't know if you saw my thread a few months ago but a neighbourhood tom "raped" shelley even though she is spayed. He made her bleed and I wonder if she caught something then?

Yes Mark i`m sure something could be found even after a year, there are all manner of ways for them to pick these things up!!! It`s odd the vet said that because steroids are quite often found to improve diahorrea. I hope things ge easier for your mum and Shelly soon!

Yep - she is. My mum just called me again to say she has been rubbing her face on some grass for 5 minutes and is it anything to worry about?

she's high maintenance that Shelly isn't she!!

She is a lot better today and charging round the garden  . The vet said it's possible the upset stomach is a side-effect of the steroids. She said keep and eye and if she gets an upset stomach again, they will do more tests.

Would it be possible for it to rear its head a year down the line Amanda?- I will get her asking questions. Shelley has been on antibiotics and steroids so far.

You never know Mark, it might be worth checking for FIV too. I`m not sure if you know that i`m a VN and you would be amazed at the amount of animals that we see that end up with a diagnoses of Campylobacter or similar where they have had chronic diahorrea for some time. It seems especially common in animals that have been in less than clean environments so this might fit with what you were saying. Hope this all gets sorted soon!

I think my mum is worn down by it all.I will suggest sending samples off. My problem was I was really busy this morning and had various calls about cats then when my mum called, I was getting stressed and said as much as I would like to talk about cats all day, I had work to do  -

I will check tomorrow as she is back at the vets.

I wouldn't be surprised if Shelley is FIV as she came from a huge colony of un-neutered cats in a junkie's house and I don't suppose Basildon CP test for FIV

It might be worth seeing if the vet will send a poo sample away to be tested in case this shows any abnormalities?

Yes she usually paws my mum's face at 5 or 6am to wake her up - but slept through with her today - I guees they are both tired

Hippykitty, I think Mark said that Shelley HADN'T pawed his mums face as usual due to being ill.

It does sound as though your mum is having it pretty rough with Shelley.

The cat may be pawing your mum's face because she's feeling uncomfortable. Has the vet looked into the cause of this problem? You may have already said on another thread and I've missed it. Cats shouldn't have prolonged bloody runs for no cause. I hope you get this sorted soon, the cat and your mum must be having a miserable time.

She has chronic diarrhoea - it was so bad that it was mucousy and had blood in. She is on antibiotics for 4 days. Mum is exhausted and didn't get up untill 10am today (probably the first time in her life) and Shelley was still asleep on the end of the bed. She said the cat usually paws her face from about 5am. I wish my mum had never got Shelley now as she has had nothing but problems, without having a companion.
