:yayyy: Buster went home this morning, cats are still in one piece not to happy that they were in the bedroom all night and this morning. next year she's gonna have to find  an alternative as if they'd been let in the same room there would have been blood shed. as both Phoenix and Buster wanted to go for each other.

the dog is currently in the front room and they have free roam of the rest of the flat but come sleepy time they wont have the bedroom, wont leave buster in the front room as when i left him for 10 mins to see how the cats were he trashed his bed stuffing everywhere  i just feel so guilty at the moment as buster tried to go for phoenix as i opened the door a smidge to see if they were eating Gimley hasn't moved from under the bed since buster got here. i think he's mad at me and Phoenix keeps looking at me like She's confused as if to say i havent been naughty why me no in the living room so i can snuggle its heart pulling

Oooh a staffy who barks all night you have my sympathys, as lovely as they are but they sound like demented seals  :evillaugh:

I'd put your cats into a portion of the house and keep the dog totally separate, i dont think this is too much problem for your cats for 2 days.  Perhaps next year your inlaws will have to rethink what they are going to do when they holiday.

Could the dog not stay at home and you go and feed it?

To be fair I do not think it acceptable to leave a dog at home and someone come to feed it and take it out. Although in this case I do not think it fair that someone who does not really want to care for the dog should have too.
normally i don't mind looking after buster(i usually love having him here but this was before we had Gimley and Phoenix) as he's usually a lovely little dog who loves to lick and cuddle when he's here but he now and again like to growl (i know this from when we have been to my partners parents house) i guess my concern is because he has never seen a cat before and not sure how he will react to my two furbabies. my two cats on the other hand have seen dogs as the constantly look out the window watching the two dogs that live opposite and don't seem phased. oh please let it go OK i guess I'm just a bit panicky.

Stronghold is ok to use, just wanted to point that out to peeps that thought you might be using the rubbish stuff  :)

I wouldnt put my cats in that situation I have seen what cats are like after a dog has been in their home and they are not used to it, they can be a bit strange and wary after its gone.

What sort of attitude has the dog got? I think that maybe a good indicator to how its going to be. Saying that my mum had a staffy and he was fine with people but would kill any animal he seen.

What flea treatment have you been given off the vet?

If any animal is going to stay in a house where there are fleas they will catch them regardless of it being 2 days or 2 weeks and most dog fleas are actually cat fleas.

Why do you have to mind the dog anyway? Do you really want to? I would say no.

the flea treatment used by the vet was stronghold cat. We have to mind the dog as
A theres no one else (there going to germany)
B she wont put the dog in a kennel after what happened to her sausage dog rip jonny
i have defleaed the house from top to bottom
I dont really wont to do it but we have to as she does so much for us i just dont like having to take time of work to look after him but heho

Definately keeps the dog away from the cats and do not let them meet. As its only 2 days the cats should be Ok in a big room as suggested.

You really need the flea sprays as mentioned cos over the counter stuff doesnt work.

I agree with Milly's Mum ... keep the cats out of the way of the Dog in a room they can feel safe in.  Provide them with all they will need (litter tray, food, water, toys, etc).  It might also be worth in investing in a feliway plug-in  to put in the room with them just to help keep them a bit calmer (even if they don't see the D O G they will know it is in their house).

In ancient times cats were worshiped as gods; they have not forgotten this.

If its for 2 days could you keep the cats in the largest room? As i doubt the dog would keep in one room? I wouldnt risk their safety if theres a question over his reaction.

I would also spray the house as fleas make many thousands of eggs  indorex or acclaim are great and can be bought online at vet uk.

Hi,
ok so it come to that time of year for me and my partner where his parents go away and we look after their dog buster. Last year this wouldn't have been a problem, but this year we have the two cats.
when we went to the vet they had their first jabs and we discovered they had fleas from their previous owner they have been given a prescription flea stuff similar to spot on .originally his parents were going away for a week but since they discovered our babes have fleas there only going away for two days. my problem is buster he's a staffy cross quite small but basically hes staying with us (which i hate it happens every six months meaning i have to use my holidays) and our cats.the thing is he's never seen a cat before and i know he's gone for my partners dads testicles before he's usually quite placid but any advice you can give would be appreciated as i dont want any of the pets to get hurt
 :thanks:
Helen
