Sorry to hear about your break up...I'm sure the kittens will be a great comfort though.
I don't think changing their names will be a problem for them as they are so young and your choices are much nicer anyway! Go for it!

Sorry to hear you having a rough time beckie

I changed both my girls names when i got them, Nina was Maisy originally and Kiki was Kiwi. And they know their names.

They generally ignore what ever i say so it doesn't make any difference  :evillaugh:

Great choice of names btw. Really suits them  :Luv:

Well my birmans aged 12yrs at the time came to me as Wellington and Napolean, Wells and Naps. I asked what names they answered too and was told none!

So I added Ducha and Franta infront of their names and Franta is nearly deaf and cant hear his name and Ducha totally ignores me......2 yrs on.........well until Friday last week and in total frustration I called Wells and he turned round and looked at me! So who flipping knows

At present he is Wells and Ducha Wells!

I think I'd be tempted to call him drawers (chesta' drawers) as a nickname  :evillaugh:

Wasn't he a 1930s music hall comedian..?  :evillaugh:

I like the Brian and Geoff suggestion.  :evillaugh:

I kept calling my pal's kitten Gary (she'd called in Skunkie) and that got me in lots of trouble...  :innocent:

Whatever you call it, remember one day you'll be waiting at the vets and the nurse will come out and yell it's name... will you want to stand up and confess?  :-:

I read recently that names with more than 2 sylables can confuse animals (poor minimopsical  :evillaugh: )

But Mark you must remember that Minimopsical has far more intelligence than the average cat :)

Sorry to hear about your break-up Becky, but no doubt the kittens will help keep your mind off things!  If it helps, Bella was 5 months old when I got her and I changed her name as I hated the one she'd got (Ali Cat - yeuch!)  It became quite obvious that she didn't know her old name and she soon answered to the new one.  I think Bertie was at least a year old before he recognised his name.

Kylie use to be called Minty (when I got her from the rescue) which is a silly name (maybe her emerald eyes?)
Willow use to be called Lucy when OH got her from the rescue in Paris.

Wonderful new names .... go for it.  They will soon learn their new names.  ;)

Sorry to hear you've split up and hope you get over it quickly.  Darcy and Rochester mmmmm strong silent type  :Luv:

Our Freddie used to be Hugo till he came to us aged 4ish last October. I'm afraid I just didn't think the name suited him at all.  Have never had much look with any cat of mine responding to me calling them by name until Freddie and he bounds down the garden like he's possessed when he's called  :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: so he must like his new name.

In fact it's all a little difficult at the moment as we are catsitting for neighbours one of whom is called Red so, much to Freddie's disgust, Reddie comes too when I call Freddie

Hi Becky, sorry to hear about your relationship. Esther sends soft head butts and licks for her kittens. I have only twice changed a cat's name. Once she was a rescue who had only had her 'name' while with the RSPCA so I had no clue what her original name had been and she was just not a gertie. The other time was with Bobcat. His original name was Deena. Animal behaviourists reckon that cats do not hear the whole word you speak so if you choose something that has a similar cadence and a similar number of syllables that works best. As you say, the kitties are only young - what are they now? about 14 weeks? So it should not be that hard. Do remember to make sure they are responding to their new name before you let them out though. :Luv: from Esther

Hey

I have just split with my partner and he named out kittens. I need to change their names as i cant have a daily reminder of him - they are still really young - only four months so it should be easy to change it shouldnt it? They dont answer to their names yet so it should be fine.

I think im going to go with Darcy and Rochester. (They were Halen and Hendrix). What do people think?? (At least these 2 men will always be in my life!)
