It was reassuring reading about your panting cats as Archie is the first cat that we have had that pants after a good play session. The vet has checked his heart, which is fine, but I was still worried so thanks for raising the topic. :thanks:

Chutney was also panting after her little session. I think she was trying to find the coolest place to lie down, which included the dining room table (made of glass) :tired:

Yes it's normal so long as it's only after strenuous play.  Jaffa panted when he was a kitten (not now as he's not as energetic) and Mosi is the same.  Mosi does a lot of racing from one end of the room to the other, backflips etc when he's playing so tends to pant.  I always make him stop until he's got his breath back.  He doesn't do it so much now that he's a big boy as he doesn't race around with quite the same reckless abandon as when he was a kitten, but I suspect da bird might get him panting  ;D

Helen - at least you've set your mind at rest about Riley so that's got to be worth £500!

Cool thanks, that's what I thought, we'll keep playing to 5 mins at the most I think.  I've kept the tube so put it back in there when we finished and then that is hidden, sssshh, I can't tell you where incase there are furry ears listening  :evillaugh:

Don't talk to me about panting  :innocent:  Took Riley to the vets  for his panting and he has had nearly £500 worth of tests only to discover that his panting is nothing bad!

Lukey has never panted...  apart from after a Da Birdy session.  They go absolutely mental for it leaping around doing backflips, they can only manage about 10 mins before they are panting and then fall into a deep Da Birdy dreaming sleep  :)  They are having wiuthdrawal symtoms at the moment as I haven't been able to play with it in case they hurt themselves what with being recently neutered.

there was a film-clip someone linked up to the site of a cat playing with da bird. The final footage the cat was panting like a steam engine. With kittens who do not know when to stop, a cat-proof drawer is required so that the stimulation can be removed after a reasonable period. However, I suspect your arms will wear out before the kitties do. Smidgen is also around 16 weeks and would happily have gone on for much longer than I could have managed even if I had not had the added challenge of a large lab cross tryingto play with us also.

Yep, Lilly and Robbie are both panting after a few minutes of play - I think it is because they running round so fast, jumping up high etc in a short space of time.  They are using a lot of energy in a short space of time. It's probably equivalent to a human doing a sprint race.  They don't like resting with it though so I have to hide it when I want them to calm down.

Best toy ever but I think I may need some new feathers for it soon!

Cats aren't built for continuous cardiac exercise. They live long because only cats really know the true meaning of sleeping to conserve energy. Why else would they sleep for 18 hours solid if you let them? :evillaugh:

Lexy got hers today, we played for 5 mins and Da Bird has been put away (me is panting too!)

Fergus and Polly are going nuts over Da Bird. We are playing with it like a proper birdy, so I clear lots of space and swoop it round and round and let them catch it (although once caught they like to run off with it into the tent  :evillaugh:) They run round and jump so high. I've noticed though after only about 4 / 5 mins of playing they are panting. Is this normal? Are other people finding this? They are only 16 weeks though, so I don't want to over do it and give them a heart attack?!!

However one good thing, they are now flat out fast asleep. Also I'm finding it to be a good workout on my arms. Lots of plus points for Da Bird!!!
