Vet prices question

Most places class cats as senior from 8, as that is the age there bodies start slowing down. I Would certainly take advantage of that kind of offer!! And yes, oldies should have two visits a year, mine probably get more than that unfortunately!!

That is very interesting    The leaflet said it was a special offer and that the full price is normally £40 more, i.e. £71.50, which fits in with the prices folks are quoting.  So it sounds like a good discount and I reckon Blip will take them up on it.  It means an additional vet visit, but the leaflet also said that older cats should be checked over twice a year and that certainly makes sense to me so we shall start doing that.

It is odd to think that Blip is considered old though...

I think that sounds like good value for money.  I'd bite my vets arm off if they offered me anything for under £100 these days!

My Jeannie has her blood presssure taken every 3 months and that costs me £23. Mind you she has a 2 hour appointment so she can rest and get used to her surroundings  before they attempt to take the blood pressure. So £31.50 for bloods as well is in my opinion good value.

I pay about £70-£80 for my cats blood tests, I do pay extra to have their thyroid checked though, and it is sent away to a lab (and it did pay off this year with Tiger's showing an issue the second time round), and Ginger's blood pressure check cost me £12. I think the basic pre-anaesthetic bloods are more than that at my vet, and I am in a cheaper area than you!!

When Jaffa had his "geriatric blood panel" (and I'm trusting you all that no-one will tell Jaffa it was called that!) it included pretty much that - kidneys, liver, red blood cells, white blood cells, blood glucose and loads of other things.  It also included thyroid test and was sent away to a lab rather than being done in house (they do basic stuff in house but have to send the thyroid off I think - I imagine it will cost more to send away a blood sample for analysis than to do it inhouse).  I paid £50 for the lot, excluding vet consultation (he didn't turn up!  The nurse took the blood sample anyway as we'd discussed doing the test previously so no need for him to see the vet until results through).

can't comment on the price, but it seems a normal range of tests for the older cat - checking liver, kidneys and diabetes etc. Used to have similar profiles run on Bob each year.

Blip, who is nine, has received a mailshot from her vet inviting her to an Old Friends health evaluation.  I dont think I shall tell her it is called that!

Anyway, they are offering blood pressure measurement, weight check, blood test, kidney function, liver function, red blood cell check, white blood cell check and glucose test for £31.50.

Two questions:

1) Is this the Senior Panel that people talk about or does that normally include more?
2) Is this a reasonable price?  I will rephrase that - I know it will be pricy because it is in Fulham, but is it ridiculously expensive?
