Thanks again everyone ... you kind words really do mean alot.

As Susanne says 16 is a really good age especially for a pedigree (the breed profile says they usually live for 12 to 14 years). We think he had a little stroke about 2 weeks ago and he wasn't eating much and had lost quite a bit of weight, which we put down to old age.

On Tuesday evening he was very quiet and I sort of knew the end was near, I slept on the floor all night with him and on Wednesday morning he had another small stroke. I decided to make an appointment at the vets for the final visit (16:15) but when it came to the time to leave I couldn't do it .... he had slept on my lap all day, did not appear to be in any pain and knowing how much he hated going in his travel box / the car / the vets I didnt feel it fair to stress him out un-necessarily. I called the the Vets at 16:00 and asked for the appointment to be moved to the next day.

At 20:30 he sat bolt upright, licked his chest and looked me in the eye. I knew that this was his final goodbye ... he passed away at 20:50 with me stroking his head and Rossi and Oliver sitting nearby.

As much as my heart is breaking I know that he had the most fantiastic life. He was loved and spoilt and was my number 1.

I think 16 is a very good age. Many cats these days can live to late teens and even into their 20s but it’s nkt the norm or average and I think that sometimes it can give us unrealistic expectations and make us feel that our babies have gone much too soon, even if they live to 15+. Of course it’s always too soon however old they are but I think that if a cat gets to 15/16 without lots of health problems they have had a good life. It comforts me to know that Jaffa lived to be 17 and was only poorly towards the end. I was devastated to lose him and still miss him terribly but it helps to know he had a good, long and healthy life and was loved throughout it.

Yes Kito is a short haired Somali. He sounds a bit like Zephyr - very chatty! And loud! Maybe that’s his Abyssinian ancestry. Mosi is v vocal too but not as loud.

Paula, Kito is a short haired Somali, looks similar to an Aby and a related breed, but not the same.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. Just retunred from the crematorium with Zephyr's ashes ... baby is now back home, on the shelf with his sister. The past couple of days have been hard as Zephyr was such a huge part of my life ... not only was he the most handsome, loving, playful and loyal cat I have ever known he was also VERY demanding and persistant when he wanted to be lol.

I have been going through my photobucket account and I have found loads of pics I had forgotten about plus a couple of short videos which have brought back happy memories. I also have a recording on my phone of him purring .... he had the loudest purr and he would stand on my chest and purr in my ear when I laid in bed

I will miss my little soildier so so much but I will always have him with me in my heart and memories

Zephyr passed away last night at 20:50. He was my everything and my heart is breaking.

We celebrated his 16th birthday on Sunday 22nd Oct.

I have been dreading the day I was going to have to say goodbye to my special little mate, he was more than just a cat ... he had such a huge personality and voice to match and I know he loved me as much as I loved him. I am thankful that I had him in my life for as long as I did and I'm grateful that he was able to pass away at home surrounded by his family and the ones that loved him.

It is almost exactly 2 years since his sister, Foxy, passed on 30th Oct 2015 and now they are together again.

Sleep tight my gorgeous, affectionate, chatty little mate. You were one of a kind and I feel blessed to have known you
