Tan, you weren't to know.  You couldn't have even begun to know what was amiss at that point.

The Vets wouldn't have been able to do what they needed.

Right at this moment, you're eaten up with a guilt borne of the pain of losing him - of not being able to protect him from something you couldn't have foreseen.

Please don't torture yourself this way.

You have always done the best you possibly could for your beloved babies.

I know the shock you had of losing your gorgeous bridge babies, and the lengths you went to, to make sure your new family additions had safety and security insofar as was ever possible.

What has happened is unbelievably unjust.

Thanks so much for all your posts.
It's sooo hard but I know you all know what it's like, the pain  :'(
What I can't get out of my head is his face when I left him "for 2 hours" with the vet for bloods etc.
I was stoking him in his carrier on the vet table then walked away to the door to leave, he had his head down in the basket but as I walked away he suddenly turned round to see where I went and his face was awful total fear. His eyes so wide.  I don't know then it was the last time I would be with him.
That's all I have in my head that look of complete fear in him, i should of stayed.  I let him down.

 :'(  :'(  :'(

Tan, am thinking of you and Chaptan.  I know how much you'll all be missing Mr Blue, and my chest goes tight at the thought.

Have you had any joy in finding out how or who might have been responsible for using the poison?

Your letter looks perfect, especially as you are not directly accusing anyone of having put the poison down

RIP Mr Blue, play hard at the bridge and send your meowmy a rainbow when you have learned how.

Thanks  I keep trying to be strong but the thought of never seeing him again is devastating.
I can't take it in. :(

I have written this , what do you think?

Dear Neighbours
If you have a pet please be aware that there are rats that have been poisoned or rat poison has been put down in the area.
Devastatingly my cat has died a painful and awful death from digesting rat poison either via catching a rat or bird /wildlife that has ingested the poison or has digested it direct.

To lose a much loved and treasured family member this way is so very hurtful and upsetting for us and an awful painful way to die for any animal that digests the poison.

I would not want this happening to other pets or wildlife in the area. Please please be aware.

Thanks

Just thinking that it might also be worth alerting your local Cats Protection branch, as they can share the info on Facebook to warn other cat owners.

Oh Tan, what a shock, I'm so sorry to hear this.

You should definitely ask around - and also let other cat owners in the area know what's happened. Desley's suggestion of a typed letter is ideal - it'll save you having to repeat what's happened over and over and it'll be easier to say what you want.

Tan, I'm so sorry.  That's horrendous, and fully appreciate the potential risks.

I think I would certainly ask around.  Maybe the best way to do it would be to explain what's happened and the vet's findings, and ask if they know whether anyone in the area is using rat poison so you can speak with them.

omg that is awful, the same thing happened to a friend of mine, hers roamed free though and the thought was they actually ate baited meat rather than a rat

Thank you all.
I am trying not to think of it as I just don't want to believe it.

It was rat poison. The vet thinks secondary ingestation  ie he ate a poisoned rat.
We do have wild rats here being in the New Forest and right opposite a farmers field so the rats come over for the bird food. We had to stop feeding the birds cause of it.  I am sure one of the neighbours has put the posion down and not realised what damage they have done.
Worried that a poised rat might enter our garden where Garf and Marl are and it can happen again
I want to go round and find out which neighbour it was and ask them not to kill the rats with poison,
Do you think I should?

Xxxxxx
