Mark, my fave remedy for furball is tinned fish, like tuna, in oil. Drain some of the oil away, but give the rest to the cats mixed in with the fish. Sam gets this about every fortnight.

A furball, when thrown up, should look like a mouse, or a sausage of fur, and be fairly squashy. Sam throws them up frequently. She washes herself, shorthaired, and Polly, fluffyhaired; so swallows more than her share!

He won't eat tinned fish of any kind

He was happy to lick defurrum off my finger so I will do the same today.

Lynn, I will keep an eye on him. Although we have litter trays, clapton won't use them. He poos on the lawn  He has eaten today and is a lot more energetic so will keep watch. I knew he was going to be sick yesterday as he was licking his lips (do caps have lips?  :evillaugh: )

Agree on the cat litter if he uses a tray. They do get it up/on/around their nose and he may have licked it off?

I avoided the dreaded furball this spring by buying a £5 Zoom Groom plastic brush. Thought was going to have bald cats for a while as it gets so much out and they are short haired anyhow.
Hope senor C isn't too traumatised by his laxative and that it works soooon.

mark what type of cat litter do you use ?

It sounds like clapton may have ingested something he maybe shouldnt have so keep an eye on it.  If he's is deliberately eating gravel or litter etc ( pica) then inform your vet.

In theory - but I have to say that Magpie never ever brought up a pure hairball like that!  He always just brought up chunks of hair mixed in with vomit!  Mosi once brought up a pure hairball like that, but again he tends to just bring up small pieces of hair mixed in with bile or vomit.  Nice

Thanks Smudge.

I'm a bit concerned as I had a good rummage through his sick  and there was a hard bit in there like gravel - could this be compacted fur? - it felt too hard to be that but just wondered.

if its as hard as gravel Mark I wouldnt have thought so. He hasnt been trying to pick up grass as he has no teeth and injested a tiny stone (sorry if that seems a silly thing to ask) poor litle mite

Thanks Lynn,

I have turned the house upside down looking for the defurrum - I just found it on the kitchen floor - it must have fallen our when I had kitchen drawers on the floor  :-[

He happily licked it off my finger. He is hiding under the sofa - no food yet today - hopefully it will make him feel a bit better soon?

That boy will be the death of me

good job he has such a loving and caring Daddy.hope he feels better soon Mark

mark it would probably be perfectly ok.  Most of these types of stuff are ok to use well past bbd and the worst would be the active ingredients would have worn off,.

Does anyone know if the numbers on the tube relate to a use-by date?

Clapton has thrownup hard furballs and hiding under the sofa looking sorry for himself. I have some defurrum somewhere but can't find it. I found a tube of katalax but it might be old
on the bottom of the tube are pressed numbers 0136 03 06 - I was wondering if that is a useby date - I don't want to poison him

Thanks
