Think I'd rather rescue a poor, needy cat first, but then I am not too fussed about pedigrees/excusive pets etc I think a cat you can get for free will give you as much love as one you pay 22 grand for IMO
Love me,love my animals.

the boy was sold

Was that you?   :-:

I honestly couldnt justify spending that much money on one cat when it could rebuild and pay a years bills for my local rescue

Actually although expensive, its no where near the record for most expensive cats.  Some examples:

Zeus who was an F2 bengal born from a F1 female of very high grade F1 blood was sold by Edmond Gay (bengal breeder) for c100k in 2003.  Was all over the papers.  25 grand was also paid by a certain celebrity for a bengal.

Gayzette who bred the first UK lined F1 bengals estimated the price of that first litter between 60 and 80k each- the boy was sold  :)

It uses a litter tray? More like a litter "room"! It huge!

Although, if the guy can afford $22,000 for it, then he can afford to remove the nail caps and replace the furniture it damages!
For a man to truly understand rejection, he must first be ignored by a cat.

Dogs believe they are human. Cats believe they are God.

No amount of time can erase the memory of a good cat, and no amount of masking tape can ever totally remove his fur from your couch.

soft paws / nail coverings over the actual nails...they grow out with the cats own nail so need to be reapplied, it will still be able to scratch etc but wont obviously do damage, it wouldnt be able to climb very well but i guess its not going on free range anyway.
