Gill we took in a legacy cat (as they're referred to in CP) and it was given top prioity at our rehoming centre, so yes, it does work. You need to make sure your family/carer/executor are aware that you're in the scheme so they know who to call when the time comes.

Cats Protection have a scheme that gives older people the freedom to adopt a cat, even if they believe they may not live long enough to care for the cat for life.

It's part of the Cat Guardian Scheme. Pairing cats with people who care and who want to care, regardless of their age.

Have a look at the link

http://www.cats.org.uk/get-involved/support-us/cat-guardians

Also worth signing up for the scheme if you are worried that your cats may outlive you.
