Environmental Treatment
The problem with decontaminating the environment is that few products are effective. Bleach diluted 1:10 with water will kill 80% of fungal spores with one application and any surface that can be bleached should be bleached. Vigorous vacuuming and steam cleaning of carpets will help remove spores; of course, vacuum bags should be discarded. To reduce environmental contamination, infected cats should be confined to one room until they have cultured negative. The rest of the house can be disinfected during this confinement period. Cultures of the pet are done monthly during the course of treatment.

Well thhe vet said the spores stick to the cats fur so you need to hoover to get them up. I don't know what else you can do with the carpets? I certainly hope the cats don't start weeing everywhere at least Millie and Charliee got the all clear. The vet did suggest that I kept the cats confined to one room for the 6 weeks treatment! No chance of that happening! They would go mad.

Problem is the bleach cos cats will think its cat urine and you may have probs.............what good is hoovering gonna do LOL

The second vet confirmed the diagnosis on Comet, just using a Woods lamp, she said she was sure that's what he has. We now have to take Millie (Mum) and Charlie (our dog ) to be checked also. At £65 per pet for treatment it's going to be expensive.  the vet said to disinfect all hard floors and surfaces with 10% bleach and Hoover all soft furnishings.

A woods lamp isn't always accurate. To confirm ringworm you need a skin scraping to put under a microscope.

My late cat Kocka had ringworm and was never told to disinfect house. Was given something to paint on the place and it cleared quite quickly and I never caught it thank goodness.

Eye and nose very strange places to get it I think.

Your vet may have some inside info about RSPCA, they may have had an outbreak

TBH I wouldn't think that using a Wood's Lamp to check for ringworm would be part of usual RSPCA vet checks before rehoming    Certainly need to contact the RSPCA though if ringworm is confirmed.

So sorry that your experience so far with Comet has been such a worry

The vet used the Woods lamp and green showed up on his eye where the fur is missing, no green showed up on his nose where it looks sore but his ears showed up green, where there is no sign of a problem, so she's going to get the other vet to give a second opinion. I asked how he could havve got ringworm since he hasn't been outside yet, but the vet just said "you got them from the RSPCA didn't you" im not quite sure what that's supposed to mean, I thought the RSPCA had them checked by a vet beforevthey were recomed.

Hope it isn't ringworm as, whilst it's only a fungal  skin condition, it is a bit tricky to get rid of and very contagious.  Fingers crossed for you all 

Did it show up using a Wood's UV Lamp?

We took Comet for a check up on his eye but the vetvthinks he might have ringworm she wants us to go back tomorrow to see the vet who specialises in dermatology. If he has got it then both cats and Charlie will have to be treated. It's going to be a big job disinfecting the whole house.

Thanks for the replies, I will certainly look at gettimg some more toys for them and try to distract Vomet a bit. We had his eye checked andd have some cream to put on it twice a day, we have to go back next week to getbit checked again. He's not keen on the drops lol

Am another one who thoroughly advocates the using of fishing rod toys for wearing out young hooligan cats.      From what you describe of their behaviour, she's not being aggressive per se, just discouraging him from being too "over the top" and it's how kittens and their littermates learn.  Sometimes it seems very savage to us, but amongst cats, it's not uncommon.

You could try and make a "path" around your rooms, so that she has places she can climb on to to evade him when he's being too much for his Mum.   Things she can climb on to and to progress round the room are great - ie shelves and bookcases (you may have to remove valuables for a while first) and other items of furniture or scratching posts and activity centres with higher paces where she can gain the advantage - on the other hand, if she prefers getting under things, or into things, then think about where you could provide those.

Has Comet's eye been checked over, just to make sure there's no serious damage?

  to Purrs and hope you get to relax with your newbies soon and enjoy them instead of worrying about them.  Takes a while 

Dinah came to us with her two girls Millie (my gorgeous girl sadly now RIP  ) and Ruby at which point the girls were about 11 weeks and Dinah about a year old.  I too was very worried for first couple of weeks as Dinah was really rough with them but at least the youngsters had each other to play with so Dinah didn't get constant full on attention from them.  Dinah was the purrfect mom to start with but increasingly made it clear that she wanted nothing to do with them and used to get quite nasty with them when they tried to continue suckling.  It all settled down by the time they reached about 4 months or so as they learned not to mess with mom.  I think this behavior is not at all unusual but sorry to hear that young Comet has a poorly eye 

Very much hope your Millie and Comet settle into a less aggressive routine before too long but I would echo intervening with toys and, whilst it may sound like a sales pitch, you won't find a better selection of toys than the Purrs Shop.  It's excellent    Fishing rod toys are especially good for tiring out bouncy boys

Kittens can be pesky things to older cats, Millie is just trying to teach him some manners. If he is going back for more it is unlikely that she is hurting him, but not nice to see nevertheless. You can try distracting him with toys when you see he is getting too much, the Purrs shop has some great ones. Tunnels and boxes/cubes are great too, they provide them with lots fun and can give additional temporary hiding places for Millie. Hopefully Comet will get the message and learn the boundaries soon.

We adopted Millie (11 months) and her kitten Comet (11 weeks) 10 days ago. Now that they are both more confident and playing more Vomet seems to be annoying mum but constantly stalking her and jumping on her head. She puts up with it for a while but then gets fed up and will grab him, bite him and , more worryingly, rake him with her back legs. Although he squeals in pain when she does this it doesn't stop him keeping on his torment of her. Wif we seperate them by putting them in sperate rooms they sitveitherbside if the door and cry till we let them back together again. Comet has a sore eye which Inthink he must have got from hp this behaviour and im worried that he might sustain more injuries of this continues. But everything Millie finds somewhere to get out if his reach it doesn't take him long to work out how to reach her again.
Had anyine fot any advice?
