Might well have been an allergy  - as Sherlock Holmes was known to say "when we eliminate the impossible, whatever's left - however improbable - has to be the answer.   :sneaky:

Am just very pleased for you all that Alfie's eyes are showing so much improvement, and that Ozzy has his playmate back.   ;D

That's such wonderful news, hope the improvement continues  ;D  Maybe the litter was more dusty or contained something he was allergic to that wasn't helping him? Hope Ozzy is happy with the play fights, but doubt the pheasant was too pleased with his new found exuberance  :evillaugh:

There has been a vast improvement in little Alfie's eyes The optimunne cream we have been applying twice a day seems to be working we have also changed the cat litter we were using whether this is coincidence or not we don't know but there has been a great improvement in his well-being we saw him this morning chasing one of the pheasants that feeds in our garden he now gives Ozzy our Maine coon a good play fight twice a day!

Hello again, Alfie has had the moisture test and it was very low, thanks for the advice we appreciate it,we will keep you informed he still has 5 weeks left to go with the lotion, Paul Jane Ozzy and Alfie.

Hi Paul  :welcome: to Purrs. Sorry to hear about Alfie  :hug: I have no experience of this, but maybe a second opinion or a visit to a specialist veterinary ophthalmologist may give other options/solutions? I was lucky when one of my boys needed more specialist treatment I found a local vet with specialist training via the RCVS find a vet. Best wishes for the little lad.

So sorry that you have found Purrs in such circumstances.  I'm afraid I have no experience to offer either and, having googled the condition, much of the literature relates to dogs.  Whilst I can see from the data sheet for Optimmune, it only refers to treatment for dogs, I did come across an American link that indicates Optimmune for use in both dogs and cats

I'm not sure how computer savvy you are but I also found other links that give information that may give you a firmer grasp of Alphie's condition and treatment

I gather that much depends on the severity of Alphie's condition and wonder if it has been possible to apply the Schirmer Tear Test which I can well imagine would be tricky in a cat

I don't know where you live, but I wonder if there is an eye specialist you could ask  to be referred to

certainly with humans very few GPs  would know much about eye conditons beyond the basic, and usually give an immediate referral to the nearest hospital, and it may well be the same with vets

Am so sorry to hear of Alfie' s difficulty.  I can imagine how distressing it is for all of you.  Unfortunately I don't know of anything which may help but am hoping someone else may have experience of this who could offer their thoughts.   You sound like you have a wonderful family and we're very glad to have you as members.

Hello my name is Paul we are new to this site, We have a problem with our seven month old cat Alfie which may lead to the little fella going blind , he has no tears so his eyes are constantly sore, the vets have given us steroid drops which did'nt work and now we are trying a lotion called optimum which is really for dogs , we have to use this for six weeks ,it's making life really hard for him because although he has the run of the house and garden with his best pal Ozzy ( a mainecoon ) he always comes back in the house first because of the condition , if anyone can offer any advice we would be most grateful. Paul ,Jane ,Alfie ,and Ozzy.
