Made a small contribution.  Would that it couldve been substantially more.

Jay Tiernan one of the Stop the Cull organisers has been sentenced to 2 years suspended sentence and £25,000 cost. If anyone would like to help him out with the costs or could share this with anti cull people it would be great. Here is the website for donations - http://www.gofundme.com/kmju2w

Here's some info about the case http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jan/21/activist-gets-six-month-suspended-jail-sentence-for-disrupting-badger-culls

Close. Same family. But Alpacas, not llamas.
Julie.

A. Alpacas are very closely related to llamas. They are both from a group of four species known as South American Camelids. The llama is approximately twice the size of an alpaca with banana shaped ears and is principally used as a pack animal. Alpacas are exclusively bred as fleece animals.

Yes it's the sea. In the first three below you can see across to Wales. I like the last one because of the clouds.

Thanks Julie, very sad about the first sett, especially as it had been used for such a long time  :( Very glad to see that the second one looks so active.

Walked across beautiful fields to check another one that is difficult to get to. And found badgers had returned. Good result after the disappointment of the empty woods.

Yesterday checked a wood for a very large ancient badger sett that was badly persecuted during the last cull. No sign of any life there.

So we have some one in both areas to keep us up to date.

Yes get this government out and we have to hope that a new one will protect wild life and start reading the stats and that badgers are not harming anything.

As for the other greedy  :censored: who kill wild life to make money by killing other wild life, this is just disgusting,

Well done Alison and Julie  ;D

OK, have looked up about the hare killing. It seems that landowners are killing hares to protect the grouse so that they can be slaughtered by rich idiots later in the year. That makes total sense to me. Not.

Code: [Select]
The large-scale culling of mountain hares is not illegal, though they are a protected species.
Their definition of 'protected' must be rather different from mine!

Interesting what you said about the police. During the first cull this area was flooded with police from other forces who were less than friendly at times. There were incidents of roads being blocked too. This time, there were not so many police about and not that many from different areas. Seems they were going all out for Somerset which reflected in the figures :(

All the best for tomorrow

Alison I am out tomorrow checking setts with a couple of of friends. There are signs of badgers coming back in some areas. Where as like what you found, setts blocked and farmers making lame excuses. I just can't believe it is going to happen all over again. And the police last time seemed to be entirely on the shooters side and was stopping us and demanding names and addresses. They were blocking lanes and not letting us down them. I think they must have been drafted in from other areas because the first cull the police patrolled were all mainly friendly and left us alone.
Julie.

Sorry Julie, am sure I asked what area before

I agree the list of culling other animals gets longer and currently there is a wild boar cull in the Forest of Dean with people out trying to stop it. Could not believe when I read mountain hares are now on list and all because of big bucks to be made from so called hunting >:(

Myself and others are still going on walks to check setts. We have found one blocked entrance which was reported but farmer said cows did. I am amazed his cows are so good with spades :-:

We have also reported developers for trying to buil;d a drive over a sett >:(

We really need to vote this government out while we have some wildlife left. What with buzzards, mountain hares, squirrels and now beavers and wild boar. Hopefully they will be gone before the cull starts this year. Although I do wonder if farmers are just going out and killing them anyway. It would be much easier when the sabs and wounded badger patrol aren't around. I don't trust them.

I agree that we should vote this government out.Though if a new government ever keeps their promises about animal welfare would remain to be seen.  As for farmers killing badgers. Well it does happen. But at least not on the same scale as the organised cull. Shooters are paid to kill and don't mind being up all night to do it. Where as farmers can't be up all night, or most of it, and then do a full days work next day. Though I'm sure some farmers will just poison the badgers and not bother to try and shoot them.Especially when it comes to pheasant farming and a game keeper is paid to rid the land of all badgers, foxes and any other creature that moves.
Julie.

Which area were you patrolling as I was patrolling in Gloucestershire :shify:

Alison I am in the West Somerset area. Right in the midst of the killing area.

I wonder if they are starting in June because they think the protesters won't be around in great numbers. It doesn't get dark until well after 10pm and so they might think a lot of protesters will think it too late to start going out if they have to work next day. Last time we were meeting at 8pm and patrolling our allocated areas. June would mean meeting a lot later. But I am sure those who care about the badgers will still go out, whatever the time.
Julie.

It has been announced that the badger cull will start earlier this year, putting cubs at risk alongside adults  :'(
