Rosies mum, theres a flea tablet called capstar, it kills fleas in 15 mins! Only lasts 24 hours but if you were to spray your house at the same time you would get them all  ;D
http://www.vetuk.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=11
Ask your vet if he thinks that capstar would be ok to use, i couldnt live with fleas for 2 weeks, they love my blood too much!

Lisa, you could have carried a flea into your house so dont blame the wrokmen!

but ive not been anywhere

Awwwww yes of course i suppose u couldnt use anything as it would sting her and irritate the wound . what about a spot on i wonder if that would be ok or not ?????

I did ask the vet last week, but he said that if I could survive a couple of weeks until the last bit heals, he would prefer to leave her as it is.

I hate fleas, they are horrid little beasties, especially when they jump out of the comb before you've had chance to squish them or plunge them in boiling water

I used Indorex a few months ago when I found a flea and it was very good, haven't found any others.  It stinks though so you have to follow the ventilation instructions quite closely.

The only downside to these products are they are insecticides in general, and I found loads of dead ladybirds around  :(

Good luck de-fleaing!!!

I have been told that fleas cannot live on humans (not sure if it's true or not - sorry)

Rosie has fleas now, I'm sure those dogs gave them too her - but I can't treat her or the house until she is fully receovered - ie. the wound on her tummy has healed, so I have been combing her a couple of times a day to get rid of some. They are gross, my Son says that when I am getting them off the comb, I have a demonic look on my face!

I would say it depends on your floor, but as long as you make sure there is absolutely no crockery, cutlery, food etc out before you spray, only spray around the edges where the cupboards meet the floor or where the skirting meets the floor, and wipe down your surfaces once you've aired, you should be OK. You deffo don't want to get it in your food or anything - there should be instructions on the tin as you where to avoid.

Personally, I won't be spraying my kitchen, as if I have got fleas in there it'll be behind the units where I can't reach - although I'm toying with the idea of putting a flea trap down under one of the units.

Lisa, as long as any food or crockery/cutlery etc isn't getting sprayed, it should be fine. (And if it isn't I've been doing it wrong! :shy:)

I hate fleas! Good luck wiping them out!

No idea what the pestcontrol people use but I use Acclaim which does the trick.  All mine go outside and we have no flea probs altho that's only because I keep on top of it.
I use Acclaim too - used it in conjunction with Frontline a few years ago (1997? 1998?) when it was really hot and practically our whole street got infested (lots of cats & hedgehogs etc) - within 24 hours the house was completely flea free, it was great - it had been at the stage where if you wore white socks they would be crawling  Fab stuff.

:and do u think im doing the right thing by treating the whole house if ive only found what looked like one flea ?

If it was a flea you found (if it was hard and went pop when you squashed it, very likely was) there will surely be others and there will be flea eggs too so yes I think you should treat the whole house.

I always treat one room at a time and leave hall, stairs and landing until I am just about to go out and either lock em out with access only to kitchen for an hour or so or lock em in a room that's already been treated and aired.

All directions will be clearly given on the can.  No idea what the pestcontrol people use but I use Acclaim which does the trick.  All mine go outside and we have no flea probs altho that's only because I keep on top of it. New pack of Frontline arrived from Vet UK just this am.

I spray animal bedding too and they appear OK with that.

Indorex is great and lasts up to 12 months. If you can get all your animals out of the house to spray it, that is!

do u need to spray kitchen and bathroom floors? - only round the edges or joins
do u have to spray laminate floors ?  - hard floors with no gaps shouldn't need spraying
or is it just carpets and soft furnishings ? - yes + any other cracks & crevaces
do u spray skirting boards? - yes - where the carpet & skirting join is a popular meeting place for fleas  :evillaugh:

does the animal have to be away from the room while its drying ? - yes - it will tell you on the can how long. It will tell you to air the room out too.

is one can enough fo a small house ??? - depends on the make and size of can - the can the vet gave me says it does an "average 3 bed house" (I had to get 2)

does it kill and prevent fleas ???. The better ones kill fleas and have a hormone stunter in that stops the larvae & eggs developing (eggs can't hatch)

do u spray animals bedding or just wash it ? - a hot wash should kill anything (60 degrees) most pet bedding says wash at 30 but I always chance it and wash at 60  :evillaugh:

I'm sure you know this but the can says never spray onto an animal.

DO NOT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

when i got my dog 5 yrs ago i got the council to treat my house as a precauition,

since that ive only ever treated the pets ,as ive never ever found a flea,
im slightly paranoid as im sure i may have found one this morning in the bathroom but i cant swear it was defo a flea , it was black and i got hold of it and squished it and it left some blood on me finger

I think it's mainly soft furnishings and carpets you need to spray, including beds.  You will need to remove the pets from the room you're spraying while you wait and air the room (you'll need to remove yourself too - and you'll want to cos it stinks!)
