It was a so called safety collar, as indeed have many of the collars I have dealt with in simlar circumstances.

Its terrible - non- safety collars should be banned. I was a bit miffed to see them for sale at a CP fundraiser on Saturday  (I think they were elasticated)

My step-dads cat that they rescued had a horrific collar injury. The vet suspected it had been like it for 2 weeks.................. she had 3 operations and 6 months cage rest. It has left her with a slight limp where they had to cut away all the dead tissue but apart from that she is fine................the pain these poor darlings must endure with the collar rubbing and rubbing doesn't bare thinking about

I cannot believe that the caller had still left it on the street, I did ask that they put the little one in a place of safety. I have just phoned again and it is now in a place of safety and will be picked up in a while.

Apparently it had been wondering for days with its paw in its collar, yet no one thought to do anything about it.

I find that truly astounding. Glad the little one's safe now.

I have just received a phone call, (from another area, and advice given who to contact) about a cat who was thought to be a stray but because it had a collar on the people who were feeding it also thought perhaps it had a home. If only someone had reported the cat and sought advice then it would not now be in a horrific condition (the callers words). Apparently it had been wondering for days with its paw in its collar, yet no one thought to do anything about it. I would ask any newbies to see the lost and found page on my site for advice if they think a cat is a stray. Obviously any telephone numbers would need to be those of your local Cats Protection or other rescue.
