RIP Blackie, your Meowmy will never forget you.  Play hard at the Bridge - I'm sure my Gypsy will show him the ropes.       :(

Awww thanks.  Gypsy sounds nice to do that!

Thanks again lovely people. xxx

Yes, Stuart and Gill, it sure is a heartache and a shock to have them crash like that with no return.  To start with I just thought it was Blackie's diabetes playing up, and then the news came his kidneys weren't in good shape and he would need different food for that.  But sadly, no improvement came on the drip at the vets.  :'(

That is such a good thread Stuart and brings it all back to me.

I know that Ducha crashed in 24 hours after being fine and there was no way back  :(

I'm so sorry to Hear Blackie passed away  :'(

I had a similar experience with Hamish, little did I know that when he was diagnosed with readings through the roof
that he would only be here for another 5 days, it Broke my heart  :'(

That is how I found Purrs  :) who gave me the support and strength to get thru

I'm sorry to hear about Blackie   I hope he shows improvement soon.  It's so worrying when they are poorly.  My Jaffa has CRF which at the moment isn't too serious but I know how suddenly they can go downhill.  I hope your vets can get him rehydrated and interested in food and you can get him back home soon

Thanks.  He's 13 and had diabetes 3 years.  He's had mouth problems recently and not eating as much, but had antibiotics for that.  Think his mouth probs caused him to stop eating on Thursday, and his diabetes got out of control too.  Can't see him on Sunday so afraid he'll get depressed.

Do you have his readings from tests cos this will give you an indication.

What did the vet say, is he dehydrated, is he eating, has he lost a lot of weight very quickly and what age is he?

I know they can go down very suddenly and lost Ducha my 19yr old last Aug and although he had kidney probs for quite a long time although never treated cos he couldnt be pilled, he literally went down over night and when I took him to the vets within 24 hrs on what was sadly to be his last journey, Gareth told me they could put him on a drip but that would only last for about 4 days and we would be back to square one.

This is a discussion that you can only have with your vets really and ask him what he would do if it if it was his cat. It really depends on so many things.

Really sorry to hear this  I know it must be a terrible worry but he really is in the best place

Have the vets said what's caused it ie age related chronic renal failure or acute renal failure eg some sort of poisoning? How old is he?

Oh feel so sad. Poor Blackie is struggling with kidney disease. Happened so suddenly on Thursday. They say he should have improved by now ( 2 days ) but continuing treatment. Anyone know how long improvement can take?
