I'll ask him later as he didn't mention it but you know what men can be like  ... the vet did say he had good muscle tone.. any other symptoms with this virus other than holding their paw up?!

It is just that there is a virus that makes cats/kittens hold the paw up

Thanks everyone for your kindness & your comments, I have been feeling so guilty all day!

Little monkey didn't limp once in the vets!   although he did keep holding his paw... Vet can't see anything and he doesn't appear to be in any pain, thinks he might just have a little sprain or something.

So we have to try to make him rest for 5 days (how you get a kitten to rest I don't know LOL!) We have taken away his scratchpole so that he can rest his paw and he's back on Monday night for a check up and to be microchipped.

At the moment he is sitting where his scratchpole was and he doesn't look happy!

Oh no, just read this, poor little Barney

I'm sure he'll be alright, though I know it's difficult not to worry.

:nono: :hug:You're definitely not a bad mum - don't be daft. I nearly always leave my cats 48 hours before taking them to the vets (depending on the illness or injury), as this gives their immune systems time to kick in. Having said that, it really comes down to experience with your animals - I know that mine are all ridiculously healthy and that my lovely vet Claude won't treat them if they don't need it (no unnecessary antibiotics). The longer you have a particular animal, the more you'll get a feel for whether it needs to go to the vets or whether it can heal on it's own. Also, don't ever let your vet tell you you're a bad owner - as long as you go with gut instinct, you're in a much better position to assess the behaviour/health of your cat than they are, as you see them day to day. I once had a vet who didn't believe that I took my cat in as soon as she got ill (flu) - but I had. It's just that she literally went from fine to dying overnight... (that was scary).

Note: this from the person who rang their vet in a panic yesterday because new pooch has cut her foot on some glass on the pavement. Apparently they apply the same rules to dogs, but how was I to know? It's my first dog. Am now inspecting/cleaning wound twice a day... gibber

Ive come to the conclusion there is no way to make my home totally cat safe cos everytime I think I have they do something I would never think of and scare me half to death. If it makes you feel any better I have a friend who came home from work one day and her cat was limping. She was so upset she shoved said cat in the basket, flew to vets, without an appt and begged them to see her poorly poorly cat. The vet examined the cat and came to the conclusion that there was absolutely nothing wrong in fact he suggested that the cat just wanted a bit more attention and was in his words ' taking the p*ss'

Don't say such things, of course you are not a bad mum!
These sorts of things happen all the time, take it from the mama of a VERY accident prone cat! When Gus was a youngster I came home one day and a small wooden ladder that had been propped up against the wall had fallen on him and he fractured both his back legs.  The vet wouldn't give him any painkillers, and he cried so badly that I couldn't stand it, and just bawled like a useless twit while my poor sister held him in her lap.
Kitties are clumsy, no matter how gracefull they try to make us think they are! Barney probably slipped on something silly, like jumping off the table.
Don't worry, Barney will be alright!

Well the past few days Barney has been holding his paw up when he's on his scratch post but only when he was on it when he's running around or sitting anywhere else he's normal and we wondered if it was just something he did...

Last night I got home and when I opened the door the little fella came running through limping  boy did I feel like a bad mum 

I tried to get an appointment at the vets last night but couldn't so OH is taking him tonight... I didn't sleep well last night from the worry... I am so upset, he's an indoor cat so I just don't understand what he could of done.

He purrs still, very effectionate doesn't meow if you touch his leg but last night he just seemed happy to lay on my lap all night...

Am I a bad mum?!
