Sophie can count!!!  She was always a very attentive affectionate mum but since 3 of her kittens went to their new homes last weekend she has been even more protective of the remaining 3.  When they went for their first vacs at the vet she heard them squealing ( because of being handled not in pain) she had to be put up on the table in her carrier, so she could see they were OK.  They have begun to come downstairs under their own volition and have met the other cats.  Big Harvey loves little ones and it won't be long until they are more comfortable with him and have a good game.  Sophie isn't very keen on their new adventures and tries to block the staircase - in vain.  I do hope she finds a good home very soon, and the kittens.  However, with the new cats that have recently come to Covcats being coloured as opposed to black I think I may have them for some while yet.  Have tried to attach a lovely pic of the kittens on the stairs but it won't let me do it today.  Says it's too big............I know it's not so it must be a glitch.

  Just an update.  Three of Sophie's kittens have now gone to their new homes, Cinders (prev Flash) Jet (now to be Crookshanks) and Splash (now Mavis) are with their doting new slaves and it looks like theyll settle well.  I do feel a little wrench when they go but seeing them inquisitive and confidently exploring their new homes is great.  Three, and beautiful Sophie, to go now.

They're 4 weeks old tomorrow and doing really well.  I think this one is Splash, the lightest in colour and just about the biggest.  She's just beginning to take an interest in Sophie's food.  I put a bit of the jelly on my finger for her to lick off and I can confirm she has lots of very sharp teeth!

It could be that the tabby markings will fade as they grow up or are 'ghost' markings that can only be seen in certain light. When Riley was a baby he was very stripy - see pic - but now they have disappeared and are only feintly visible if he is laying in direct and very bright sunlight. The only stripes that are visible in normal daylight are the rings to his tail.

We had some black and white kittens (orphans) that turned an incredible silvery grey and black. We think it was actually a result of a food allergy!

Fluffy Stophie and her mini fluffs look gorgeous  :)

Cant find a good photo of our silver back kittenz, heres fuzzy showing some of his grey bits.

found one i was sent earlier this year of the boys now "vandals" according to their slaves, though of course at that 9 month old stage....  :evillaugh:

Their mum was persian. All 3 boys went to the same home, 2 were black and 1 quite grey from a distance.

Hi Bren, we've seen it before with kittens with some persian ancestry.
An extreme were the 3 black boys that Sue had last year. Can't see any photos but one especially kept gtting greyer. It may be an undercoat thing with persians.

Sophie is one of Covcat's rescues, the third pregnant stray.  She had her 7 babies on 10th March although one didn't make it.  There's a pic on another thread, but I'll put it here as well.   But here's a strange thing...................they (some anyway) are changing colour.  When born they were all black with various shapes and amounts of white under chins, but now a couple of them are most definitely going dark brown tabby!  or charcoal grey tabby!  You can clearly see the stripes, and some tummies are quite light grey.  Pictures are very difficult as they never stop moving, or are in one furry heap.  Sophie has begun to let them come out of their pen, can't stop them really as at 19 days old they have discovered they have back legs that help them move a lot quicker, and they can climb too.  I think they're quite a bit smaller than Cleo's tabbies who are a whole day younger, but all are doing really well.  Anyone out there experienced colour changes like this?
