Miranda I dont think this is ALL at all and so far have not been able to see one due to the way the search is done presumably?

I wanted to view by area but not the area I am in and my post code is totally irrelevant as is the distance in miles.

Isnt there a better way of doing the search which is not so restrictive?

All reviews seem to be mostly CP, dont see any independent rescues at all.

Eg I wanted to see Coventry Cat Group, I live in Wales, how do I find it?

Hello! Thanks for feedback!  Sorry to hear you have had a problem! If you want to find a rescue near to your home - just enter your postcode, and select 'rescue and rehoming'.  You don't have to fill in all the fields.  To find Coventry Cat Group - just enter a key word ie 'coventry' and then select 'rescue and rehoming' , click the search button and it will come up!
Regarding which rescues have been reviewed - that's just really down to who knows about the website or not.  Some rescues are actively participating and ask all their visitors and adopters to  Write a Rescue Review' so they may have more reviews than others. I have about one new rescue added a week and I think the number will finally settle to around 2250 (all species) with some opening and some folding every few months. I hope that's of some help!  :)
The more the shelters and rescues know about your views, the better they will be able meet your needs, improve standards & increase the number of animals successfully homed!
Provides up to date information for those considering adoption by listing ALL rescue and rehoming orgs in the UK. Useful site!

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have been looking at some local rescues and would take them all if i could!  :Luv: Have decided to wait another few weeks before I actually do anything as I have a weekend away coming up and will be fairer all round to wait until thats over then they will have my devoted attention. I am stopping myself from looking at the moment as they will hopefully have new homes by the time I want to get one and a new load will be available for adoption. RSPCA in Birmingham have lots of tom kittens so even though its an hour away I can definitely consider them. Also looking at the local cats protections in my area and wood green isn't to far as well.  Cant wait till I get back then I can go see some and get the ball rolling  :Luv2:

Don't forget to check out www.RescueReview.co.uk  - it lists ALL UK rescue and rehoming organisations (over 2000!) by postcode or region.  Thank you very much for rescuing.  I'm sure the cat/s  you decide to adopt will be very lucky to have you!  :Luv:

If you take a slightly older cat, ask the people who know him/her about social behaviour towards other cats. If a cat has been at the rescue for a while, and the cats can mingle, they will certainly be able to tell you.

I started out with 2 queens that were no more than house mates, they tolerated each other, but no more, though they had been together for 4 years before they came to live with me.
When they got too old to defend their own garden, we got 2 young toms, who got on like a house on fire, though 1 was 5 years old and the other 6 months, and especially the younger one was very sweet to the girls.
When the forst old lady died, we introduced a semi feral 18 weeks old, Tosca. Again, the girls tolerated each other, and she became friends with teh boys in no time. When the younger tom got run over, Tosca was devastated, and we took in a rejected tom who was the same age as Jiskefet when he died. Again, the males and Tosca were fine with each other, and Steffie, my senior queen, gracefully accepted the friendliness of the toms, without actively befriending them.

We then got a very old, very dominant queen, who 'could not stand other cats'.
Well, she lived here for 2 years before passing away. The others respected her dominance and kept clear of her, and all was well. She even tought all my other cats not to be afraid of fireworks.

When Steffie died, we got a tiny, very macho tomcat, who ruled outdoors while old Precious ruled indoors.
After Precious died, Spetter, the tiny macho, kept the whole bunch in check. The 3 toms were brothers in crime, outside,  they were always together.

We inherited 2 queens, one of which died soon after her slave, unfortunately, she turned out to have FIP, which was probably activated by the stress of her slave dying. But the other one, Josje, settled in quite well, though she seemed a little lonely. Again, she did not have the connection with the toms, though they were friendly enough.
We took in one more adult tom, who turned out to be too scared of people ADN other cats, and felt so threatened that he attacked all the other cats. So he was sent back to the rescue, he simply did not fit in with the other cats at all. There was hairs and blood all over the place, and Josje lost weight rapidly, due to stress.

Then we took in another adult tom, about the same age as the previous one, a stray, who keeps himself more to himself, and doesn't seem to care much for the other cats. But this time, there were no major problems, just a bit of hissing. This cat is rather dominant, but Tosca and Xena are a match for him, so it is more or les a joint leadership with mutual respect.

We also introduced 2 kittens in 2 years, first a queen (Xena, now 2 years old) and then a tom (Gaudi, now 16 weeks old).

Both were fully accepted by all, and even Josje is a lot closer with them than with the other cats.
So if you want them to bond, I suggest a young tom, no more than 4 months old, would be best.

We have introduced in the last 4 months 2 feral kittens now all sweetness and light Miss Kali and Miss Sherbet aged about 16 weeks and adorable little purr monsters after a lot of taming down and treats

We also took a former foster back in Leo aged 6

Also added in to the mix a 6 y.o. Huge blue bi coloured Ragdoll at 8kgs The kittens Uncle Caspurr who is a poppet just forgets how big he is

We also a a 5 month old Brown rosetted marble Bengal who was found wandering in a rural location who was a PTS case she was terrified but after nearly 2 weeks with us I can pick her up, she purrs and loves Valarian no reaction to catnip

Finally we are fostering a nearly 4 y.o Norweigian Forrest Cat Star who has been badly treated by his fomer owner and I ended up having half his coat shaved off and now have a much happier boy

All have been introduced gradually and with me present when they are around, I have for the fiorst time in a long time got Feliway plugged in and all have a safe place that nobody bothers them, Miss Bengal is still in the bathroom as she is the most skittish of the 5 and has little idea how to mix with other cats but last night bought her feather stick in to the hall for the others

If you do careful introductions and don;t dump the newbie with the existing cats then it can be done, I find kittens easier to pop in to a mix as they are easier side tracked and can be bopped by the resident adult

We always deal with the residents first then the newbies so they get to know their place in the pecking order

Oh and for good measure we also introduced a new Border Collie puppy Astra Mistral who is now 23 weeks, he has 2 big Brothers Astra Sky and Ravenhill Blazing sunshine = I like to be kept busy

Aaw that's nice - hope you get one soon.

I've always been a 1 cat woman so can't help I'm afraid.

Quite a few on here with more than one cat that might be able to help.  Why not change your title to something like - help needed from slaves with more than 1 cat please. It might grab their attention more.

Good luck.

Do you have a local rescue in mind? You could have a look on their site and see what the write-ups are on the cats/kittens they have at the moment - there may be a 'cuddly/indoor loving/gets on with other cats' ready and waiting  :wow:

I think I'd go for a male as have read that females can be a bit harder to integrate.

We currently have a 4 month old boy.  He arrived aged 12 weeks to join our other 6.  He's amazing.  Strong enough to take a few bats and sweet enough not to completely freak out the other boys and girls.  He may be the only purrfect 4 month old boy kitten in the world but it's possible there may be another one somewhere  ;)

4 month old boy tittentats rule OK  :wow:

Thinking of adopting another cat Qs
« Reply #1 on: September 07, 2011, 18:40:16 PM »
Hi everyone. I am mummy to 2 beautiful cats Jack and Poppy siblings aged 4.5 years. I am now considering adopting another cat to add to our family as I have enough love to give another a home  :innocent:

Problem is ive never done this before so just have a few Qs if anyone can help. Is there any better preference regarding sex of a new cat? Already having a male and a female is there a sex which may be better with them? They don't really get on any more and don't go near each other much.

My male cat is very much an outdoor cat and spends a lot of time outside where as my female is such an indoor cuddly cat. Although I have a cat flap which is always open she goes out for about half hour a day! So a cat that would be good with her would be purfect! I would love a situation where she cuddled up to a new cat but I know it doesn't always go that way and that's fine!

Any age preference may be best either? Or any that may not be good? Thanks if anyone can help and any advice is appreciated. I want to do it properly with as less stress to the cats as possible  :Luv:
