Well I appear to have adopted another kitty and she'll be coming to me on the 8th October! After thinking about it LOTS I decided that it would be good to have two and I think Layla will like having another feline around during the day.
She's a lovely 9 month old female who's currently weaning kittens who are around 5 weeks old. She was found in a car wash trying to feed them, poor wee thing! She's only a scrap herself and hopefully it hasn't taken it out of her too much
She's a black and white tuxedo cat with gorgeous green eyes called Carrie (although we might change it!)
Anywho...... just a couple of questions as i've never had a cat this young before (Layla is 2)
Layla eats Whiskars dried which I know is a bit crappy, but she just doesn't like Applaws/Science Hills etc. I'd like to feed the new cat the same, but does she need something different because she's younger or are these 'kitten foods' just a waste?
I'm having her spayed to save the charity money - will she need anything particular whilst she's recovering?
I've ordered a Feliway and already started stopping Layla going into the room where Carrie will be. I'll be doing full scent transfers for the week that Carrie is recovering from her spay and hoping to get a toy that goes under the door so that they can play from the other side of the door.
As Layla was starved in her previous home I know that food will be a huge thing for her (in the fact she may feel her resources are being attacked). I plan to feed them seperately and have seperate food bowls etc.
Does anyone have any more tips for integration? Are there any ideas about how to use treats/food to help Layla know there's enough food for them both?
Any other advice would be SO much appreciated!!!!!!
